Akhilendra Mishra, who plays the role of Mr. D'Mello, long-running female protagonist's father in Sony Sab's romantic comedy miniseries Khatmal-E-Ishque shares his experience working on the show. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

You have been part of popular movies, long-running television drama series, what compelled you to choose a mini-series like Khatmal-E-Ishque by Sony Sab?

I actually really liked the story. Additionally, I have also worked with Ashwini Dhir in the past for the movie Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?', and when he told me about the story I was impressed with the script and the commitment was for a short duration, hence I decided to go ahead with it.

Your role in Khatmal-E-Ishque is that of a traditional catholic father which is very different from your real life personality. Tell us what compelled you to choose such a different look?

When I read about my role, I felt it would be a great challenge for myself. I believe in experimenting with my characters and love doing new things whether it is for cinema, theater, or television. As an actor, I have tried to add a new dimension to my acting career where I am playing the role of Mr. D'mello; a retired army official and a protective father.

What was it like shooting in Goa?

The whole experience was really nice. But we were shooting outdoors for almost 14-15 hours in a day, therefore, it was quite hectic. But working with Ashwini Dhir made it easier because there was immense clarity in the script, which lately, is a very rare phenomenon in the television industry. Being the producer of the series, Ashwini himself is very involved in the direction of the serial as well, which is great!

Tell us about your experience working with the young actors of Indian television like Vishal Malhotra and Umang Jain.

The new generation of actors havegreat energy. However, having worked in theatre during the early years of my career, I have learnt that everyone needs to work in synergy in order to create a masterpiece of entertainment. Therefore, the age is hardly a factor while you act. We all worked together as one team and made this serial a hit!

How was it like working with veteran actor Sharat Saxena?

I have worked with Sharatji in a couple of movies before, recent one being Ready along with Salman Khan. He was playing the role of my brother and I really feel he is an excellent actor as well as a genuine human being. It was just like old times, we get along really well, and we had a great time.

What is your personal opinion about marriages between different castes and backgrounds?

Whether one gets married to the person they love or gets into an arranged marriage and whether it is with a person of the same caste or a different religion, to keep the ship of life afloat, both the individuals should have a great understanding and a will to adjust with each other.
