I have hardly struggled: Sumit Vats

Sumit Vats was earlier seen playing different kinds of roles in shows like Surya – The Super Cop, Muktibandhan, etc. Now he has gained immense popularity as Rishi in Zee TV's Hitler Didi. 

Here's Sumit sharing his views with TellyBuzz about his life, his acting career and much more…

Tell us something about your life before becoming an actor?

I was born and brought up in Delhi and I have done my schooling and college from there. I completed my post-graduation in journalism from Bhavan's Delhi. I used to be an active participant in theatre those days.

How did an aspiring journalist become an actor?

I was active in theatre before journalism. I was getting offers when I was active in theatre. The people, who were associated with me in theatre were keen to get me into this industry. I was asked to give an audition for Kaashi in Delhi and I got selected after that. I shifted to Mumbai after getting selected for Kaashi and this is how I started off with my acting career.

When you were a new comer, what kind of struggle did you have to face?

I was very fortunate because I have got work offers one after the other. I have hardly had to struggle.

Can you relate yourself to the character of Rishi?

Rishi is a happy go lucky guy and mixes well with others but Sumit is reserved and cannot make friends easily. Rishi is very friendly but Sumit takes time to make friends.

What did you get to learn from Hitler Didi?

Hitler Didi has given me a lot. It has helped me face the camera with confidence. I have got to know about the technicalities of shooting and grooming my skills.

What kind of equation do you share with your co-star Rati Pandey and other actors?

She is good actress and it's a pleasure working and learning from her as well as from the other senior actors too. I feel blessed to work with such good actors. Every day is a learning experience for me by working with all of them. They are very nice people to work with.

Any interesting incident from the sets which you would like to share with us?

Every day is interesting but I remember the day when I got a new phone and it had an application. I was clicking pictures and the make-up man passed from there. Half of his body in the pic got blurred as if it had dis-appeared. I showed that pic to all girls telling them he is a ghost and they all believed me. All the girls started running and screaming. It was a funny incident.  

Who are your close friends from the industry?

Every person with whom I work with are like friends for me but I am more close to my director Vikram, Aakash Pandey and Sandeep Baswana.

Staying away from family, what do you miss the most?

I miss my parents who live in Delhi and homemade food too but my director and co-star Sandeep get food for me. I am glad and feel blessed to have them; they do a lot for me. Everyone is like a family to me on the sets and I love it.

What are your interests other than acting?

Music and reading.

Your deepest fear?

Water! I did want to learn swimming and get out of this fear but it did not happen.

What is your relationship status?

I am very much single.

Tell us something about your dream women?

There is no dream woman as such for me; it could be anyone with whom I would fall in love with.

Tell us something about your first pay cheque.

I got my first pay cheque for acting when I was in Delhi and I gifted a saree to my Mom with it and I remember it was the time of Diwali.

Any TV show you follow?

I don't get time to watch TV so much because of the lack of time but whenever I get time, I watch wild life on Nat Geo.

What is the philosophy of life according to you?

Live and let live.
