Or anyone who dreams to make it big

'Girl In The City' had everyone fall in love with Mithila Palkar aka Meera and left them wanting for more. While the web series perfectly portrays the fate of anyone who comes to the city of dreams - Mumbai, it also manages to display how a small town girl makes it big but loses it to destiny in the end.

The Season 2 of the series is out and with two episodes into it already, here's our take on it!

Story so far:

'Girl In The City' ended at a very crucial point, leaving all the viewers wondering as to what exactly will happen next? While everyone wanted Meera to take the job at M9 Fashion (where she interned at, in Mumbai), Season 2 showed otherwise.

The first episode opened at someone picking up her wallet in a haste and packing things up (as if trying to run away). While we don't know who she is, we are sure that it isn't Meera.

Cut to, we see Kartik and Meera video calling each other in a darkly lit room. And over the due course of their conversation, we come to know that while Kartik flew off to London to fulfill his dreams, Meera chose her 'papa Rambo' over her dream job in Mumbai. And now, of course, they both are living their worst nightmares.

A frustrated and annoyed Meera is seen sitting at a cafe alone, browsing through her collection on Flipkart. She overhears someone talking ill about Dehradun and its inconvenience. She goes up and helps the girl not once, but twice (not knowing who she is, of course).

Cut to, her parents are trying to fix her marriage with some NRI return guy, while Meera does not have marriage on her list anywhere. While talking about it to Kartik, she comes to terms with the fact that for him, their marriage is nowhere on the list either.

Amidst all of this, Meera receives a mail from 'House Of Areems', a fashion house based in Mumbai. But 'Papa Rambo's' approval is one task ahead of her, which of course, she does not get.

Post a discussion with Kartik and Samira, Meera decides to run away. However, she waits till the next morning for her father to wake up. She apologizes to her father as he watches her run away from the terrace.

And then, whoop! Meera is in Mumbai, standing right in front her dream job. But the shock that she receives upon reaching there, puts a question mark on her decision of coming to Mumbai.

The Good

The unseen twist in the form of 'the choice' that Meera makes is what came as a sweet surprise to all of us. What followed in the form of the everyday struggle is the harsh but true fact of Meera's life, which is indeed portrayed beautifully.

The constant knok-jhok between Kartik and Meera is something that has yet been another bittersweet aspect of the series.

Meera's determination and her will to fight for her dreams is one thing that everyone should definitely draw inspiration from. What's worth a watch is how she deals with the question mark that just dropped upon her job offer!

The Bad:

As much do we love Mithila and the entire small town girl making it big concept, bits and parts of the story are rather done and dusted. In the 21st century, forcing a girl to actually meet a prospective guy and the idea of an NRI being the perfect match is yet another questionable aspect of the story!

Rating: ** (2/5)

The Verdict:

Though it is not something that is very out-of-the-box, the web series is a good watch for not just the fans of Mithila, but also for everyone who's struggling to achieve their dreams.

A 'small-town-girl-making-it-big-in-Mumbai' isn't a story that is unheard of, but what is worth the watch is how she does it!
