Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Episode 2 was a moment of rejoicing for some book readers out there...

Ok, well, unlike the several folks out there, I did not watch the second episode the moment it was leaked and waited for it to come on Hotstar Premium and then saw it. Just saying! Coming to the episode, boy was it a drag, wasn't it? As usual though, it has barely happened that Game Of Thrones has disappointed entirely. So, here are the highs and lows from this particular episode.

Highs

Bran Is Savage

It was really boring to see Bran's blah behaviour to everything in the past season but this time, we see why did he become what he did. He is the Three-Eyed Raven, yes! But apart from that he is a master of savagery. His confrontation with Jaime Lannister as perfectly written and performed by Isaac Hampstead Wright and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) as one can imagine. Bran as the Three-Eyed Raven knows that Jaime's survival is essential and knows that Jaime pushing him was also important, of sorts. The moment of the episode though belonged to him uttering - "Things we do for love" during Jaime's intervention as a callback to when he was pushed over.

The Importance Of Podrick's "Jenny's Song"

You know it that things aren't JUST put in Thrones for the sake of it by now. If you though that Podrick aka Pod singing the beautiful song during the unusual gathering and Jon telling Dany THAT thing was just usual, you are wrong. Those who would have read the books would know that In George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the song is known as "Jenny's Song"; it's about a woman named Jenny of Oldstones and her prince, Duncan Targaryen, who was Daenerys Targaryen's great uncle. And it's particularly pertinent to Dany's current romantic situation with Jon Snow and her sights on the Iron Throne. There is also a lot more to it but I would leave it here to let this get soaked in.

Sansa and Daenerys are now on the same page

Yes! The animosity between Dany and Sansa is almost out now and the duo are pretty much on the same page now thanks to Dany taking the initiative to have a talk with her. While their conversation was fantastically written and performed well too, the high point however, was Sansa talking about unwilling to giving up the North after and if Dany conquers the throne post beating the dead. Sansa is finally shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with. I admit I was wrong about only labelling Sansa as an annoying character but she is amongst the few who can see the big picture for now. Oh, and yes, something is blossoming between her and Theon. Dont quite know what!

Brienne getting Knighted and Tormund being a feminist

One really needs to know how to love and respect a woman from Tormund. Never thought I would say that about a wildling but boy are we real humans more pathetic than the fictional wildlings. When Brienne mentions about how women cannot be knighted and how its a tradition, Tormund takes a stand and says two words "Fuck Tradition." Yes. As simple as it gets! Kudos on the feminist Tormund. And Jaime along with a group of other people have now knighted Brienne thus making her Ser Brienne Of Taarth.

Lows

The Sheer Drag

Let's just say that the fantastic writing and the dialogues of the episode has saved it from being a bore. You could visibly see how the whole runtime of 55 odd minutes was clocked to only drag the big battle in the third episode. What could have easily been 15-20 minutes was only lengthened by too many interactions between the principal characters. Thankfully, the meeting by the fire and the Arya-Gendry scene kept us glued.

We Expected It But It Is Still A Bit Odd

Many fan theories were justified when Arya finally lost her virginity to Gendry and that is what she wanted to do too knowing that tomorrow (the battle) might as well be the last day of their lives. So, a grown up Arya and and obviously grown up Gendry went at it and had sex. I don't put this entirely as a low but only because it just seemed odd overall. Maybe it is just me.

Jon's Reveal To Dany

The could have had repetitive conversations and confrontations between all the characters but give the BIG reveal of Jon telling Dany barely a couple of minutes. Jon revealing to Dany that he is actually Aegon Targaryen and that making the former realize that he is the true heir to the throne was once again underwhelming as it was in the last couple of minutes of the episode clouded by the big battle to come. Maybe it was intentional but it was not satisfactory.

With two episodes of build-up, we FINALLY get down to business as the mega battle awaits us in the next episode which we already know is going to be the longest episode in the show's history and possibly, the best. How many main characters will die and who will prevail? We cannot wait to see already! 29th April. Come soon, already!
