#PromoReview: Pehredaar Piya Ki just seem to have REVERSED it's dominance paradigm!

...In the most questionable way!

The second promo of Pehredaar Piya Ki's post-time leap series Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya is here and we went through it to find out if its a better insight into the upcoming show. Here's what we thought about it-

What's it about?

This half a minute clip doesn't leave much to interpretation. It starts out with a grown up Ratan (Rohit Suchanti) tying Diya's (Tejasswi Prakash Wayangankar) hands as he takes the driver's seat in the gypsy (and their relationship too it seems). He playfully tells Diya that she works her brain, her gun and worst of all, her mouth a little too much (he means this part by the way). Ratan tapes her mouth too, while she protests claiming that the land and the people have changed quite a lot in his absence. The promo ends with them driving off into the desert.

What we liked?

We think this peek into the newly formed relation between the two protagonists, is rather revealing. The switch in their characteristics comes across pretty well. We also liked how Ratan taking over the scenario of things here, plays out in the short glimpse.

What we didn't like?

Well, he did tie her hands and tape her mouth. Considering that this series comes as a consolation for the entire Pehredaar Piya Ki controversy, we aren't sure this is a good idea. We get that Ratan is much older, but this only makes the unnecessary measure of tying up Piya rather irresponsible.

The Verdict:

The promo did send a message and set the tone of the upcoming show. We don't mind keeping the show open to interpretation, but with the tying of hands and the mouth taping we couldn't help but wonder if it was pivotal, they announce a shift in the dominance paradigm this way. It only leads us to think it may be another error in representation, the way it went down in the previous show.

The main problem with this review is not the fact that the reviewer gave her own interpretation but rather the fact that she didn't even do a basic research. Despite the show's producers clarifying many times that it's a new show, she claims that is it a sequel. If it was, wouldn't Diya be wearing a Mangalsutra and sindoor? Simple logic.

Moreover, based on just one scene, she declares there's a reversal in gender roles and there's something bad going to be shown (and even likes this reversal in roles). All this based on one promo and the fact that the male lead had not hurt the female lead in any way. Yet, this is the same site that keeps quiet when the male lead abuses and even forcefully marries the female lead in many shows, justifying this in the name of romance. Why not call out those serials as well where the male is obviously dominant to the female and abuses this dominance. The problem is with the double standards.

I hope this show succeeds to prove to those who wished bad for RLHN even before it starts. It's a new show and deserves a chance to prove itself.

One of the finest actors of her time. It's good to see such a hard-hitting movie that doesn't try and conceal the reality.
