New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS) Sports goods giant Nike launched Air Zoom Yorker, a shoe exclusively designed for fast bowlers Thursday here.

Air Zoom Yorker is a technically superior product, designed to give fast bowlers an extra edge in their follow through and allowing them to enhance their on-field performance, a statement said.

The shoe has been designed on a unique last, made specifically keeping the need of fast bowlers in mind.

The new last has been contoured so that the resulting shoe naturally supports the arch of the foot and also helps it to be in place, preventing the bowler from slipping forward and helping to protect the toes from being jammed into the front of the shoe, said the company.

Increased durability, superior touch, feel and less water retention are some of the key features that set this shoe apart.

In addition, the shoe is reinforced with the Zoom Air cushioning at the heel and the forefront, which helps to reduce pressure and increases responsive cushioning.

It took over 18 months for Nike to design this shoe.

Biomechanical studies on bowling and batting conducted at Nike Sports Research Lab in Beaverton have also been incorporated in the design of the shoe.

'Our research spanned many key areas such as comfort, cushioning, flexibility, traction, stability and shoe weight,' Chris Cook, Senior Developer of Nike, said.

The company held the wear testing process in different cricket playing countries, involving players at different levels who helped provide feedback on the shoe.
