Chennai, Oct 24 (IANS) Chennai police will have 100 cars with mounted digicams, revolving lights, loudspeakers, fire extinguishers, hooters and handcuffs, thanks to a gift hamper from Hyundai Motor India.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi Tuesday handed over the car keys to the Chennai City Police Commissioner Letika Saran here.
The upgraded Hyundai Accent cars are to be manned by a sub-inspector and a constable.
'Out of the 100 cars, 25 will be distributed to the traffic police and 75 will go to three law and order zones,' Saran said.
The vehicles will patrol busy areas in Chennai like Anna Salai, Poonamallee High Road, Nungambakkam, Radhakrishna Salai, Pondy Bazaar in T. Nagar and attend to works related to law and order, crime and traffic, she added.
