Chandigarh, Sep 28 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday asked states to invest in their young population if they wanted development to be sustained.
'India is a country with a huge population of young people. We have 20 percent of the world's total population that is below 24 years of age,' the prime minister said.
Addressing chief ministers from northern states at a conclave here, Manmohan Singh said that states should help youth become a part of the country's knowledge economy.
States must pay special attention towards providing quality governance as this would be a major component in future to differentiate one state from another, he said. Public services and other facilities should improve in all states and all services should be customer-friendly, he added.
