Shimla, Oct 24 (IANS) A new high mountain road has been constructed, connecting the remote Pangi Valley in Himachal Pradesh to the Chamba district, reducing the distance by 543 km.
'Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh opened the 167-km-long Satrundi-Bogutu road connecting the Pangi valley in Chamba district via the 14,500-feet-high Sach Pass,' a state government spokesperson said here Tuesday.
Singh flagged off a state transport bus on the winding mountain road over the weekend.
The Pangi valley, some 550 km from here, is part of the Chamba district but was accessible only via a 700-km-long road passing through Kangra, Mandi, Manali and Lahual, taking over 40 hours.
With the new road, the journey is likely to around six hours.
The road was being used by light vehicles on a trial basis for the past two months. Heavy vehicles are now allowed to ply on the road provided it is clear of snow.
