Delhi government clears projects worth Rs.590 mn

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) The Delhi government Thursday cleared six developmental projects worth Rs.590 million including one for enhancing security arrangements at the Tihar jail, the country's biggest prison.

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) The Delhi government Thursday cleared six developmental projects worth Rs.590 million including one for enhancing security arrangements at the Tihar jail, the country's biggest prison.

The Tihar central jail will purchase three X-Ray Baggage Inspection System and 12 X-Ray Portable Scanners for setting up a control room, Delhi Finance and Planning Minister A.K. Walia said.

'It would go a long way in curbing entry of undesirable items in the jail complex,' Walia said adding that the project cost is pegged at Rs.42.5 million.

Other projects relate to the departments of education, irrigation and flood, health and family welfare and law.

The department of training and technical education proposes to take up works at the Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology complex in Dwarka at an estimated cost of Rs.416.3 million.

The works under Phase-III include construction of auditorium, guesthouse, sports complex, shopping complex, three hostels for boys and extension of library building and computer centre.

'The proposed works are essential in order to develop the institute in a manner as to achieve the status of a deemed university in the near future,' the minister said.

The institute currently caters to around 2,000 students and plans are afoot to increase the strength to 4,000.

The irrigation and flood department proposes to reconstruct 28 bridges on the canals of Haryana's irrigation department falling in the jurisdiction of Delhi. Works worth Rs.18.6 million would be completed by March 2007.

The government will also construct a building of a senior secondary school in Sector-6 Dwarka at an estimated cost of Rs.67.5 million.

An amount of Rs.31.7 million would be released for the purchase of furniture articles for the Dwarka Court Complex. The government has also sanctioned an amount of Rs.12.1 million for the construction of a dispensary in the Rohtak Road area.
