New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's book 'In the Line of Fire: A Memoir' has become the latest bestseller in India. Copies of the book are getting sold out within a day of reaching Indian bookstores.

'We have got 8,000 books for India, but all the books have been sold out within a day. We have ordered 6,000 more copies,' said an elated Rahul Srivastava, regional sales manager India of Simon and Schuster, the publishers.

'We are going to get the second instalment of books from the US by the first week of October,' Srivastava told IANS.

He said they were translating the book into Hindi in Delhi and it would be priced at Rs.395.

'The Hindi print titled 'Agnipath' will be out in the market next week. We were initially planning 5,000 copies, but looking at the queries from Hindi readers and demand from book stores, we are printing 7,000 copies,' Srivastava said.

India Book Distributor (IBD), one of the three firms in charge of distributing the Pakistan president's memoir was equally optimistic.

'We had 3,000 copies and have sold out the lot. In Delhi alone we distributed 700 copies and now bookstores have placed further orders,' said Baldev Verma, IBD's manager for north India.

Bookstores in the capital said they had sold out copies of the book and were 'waiting for more'.

'We placed orders for 500 books but have only received 200 copies. All the copies were sold on Wednesday itself,' said Anuj Bahri, head of the Bahri and Sons chain of stores in Delhi.

'Though the price is a little high at Rs.950, yet no one is complaining. Looking at the content and the author, the book has received a huge response. And from the business point of view too, we are quite happy,' Bahri added.

However, some bookstores were unhappy at not receiving their copies.

'We have received a lot of queries about the book but are yet to get our copies. We ordered around 10 copies for our regular customers and hope to get them soon,' said R.K. Golgotia, owner of the Golgotia and Sons chain of bookstalls.

Musharraf's 'In the Line of Fire' was released Sep 25 in the US. The memoir records the president's version of developments in Kashmir, on India-Pakistan relations, his 'out of the box' solution to the Kashmir issue, his account of the 1999 Kargil intrusion in Kashmir when he was army chief, on the 2001 failed Agra Summit with then prime minister A.B. Vajpayee and why he joined the US' war against terror, among other accounts.
