Here's our review of Dastaan-E-Mohabbat: Salim Anarkali.
Every time you hear Salim and Anarkali, your mind immediately goes to Dilip Kumar and Madhubala from Mughal-E-Azam. Shaheer Sheikh and Sonarika Bhadoria are bringing back one of the most tragic romantic sagas in Dastaan-E-Mohabbat. Gurdeep Kohli plays Jodha Bai in the show and completely owns the first episode. She has the fierce eyes of a Rajput when she makes her entry which immediately transforms into the doting mother that she is to Salim. The transition is smooth and it makes you fall in love with her all over again. After watching her play a mother and a distraught wife in Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai, watching her play Jodha is basically everything.
She does full justice to her role. The episode starts with a young Anarkali who fled with her aunt to India after being chased and tortured by her people. A young Salim, is shown being bullied and mocked by his friends for being an emperor's son and being so spineless and scared. He runs into Anarkali, whose real name is Saifu, which is where Jodha rescues him after he is being attacked by a couple of soldiers. Gurdeep's entry is quite heroic as compared to the actual Emperor's entry. The show ends with how Saifu gets the name Anarkali and her first meeting with the Emperor will actually make you wonder and remember how it all went downhill. Shaheer and Sonarika are yet to make their entries in the show. We have seen a glimpse of their chemistry in the promos but we are more interesting in seeing Gurdeep and Shaheer's equation on the small screen. Gurdeep had joked in a media interaction saying that she always seems to be playing mothers who are torn between their kids and husband onscreen.
As the tragic love story of Salim and Anarkali goes, Dastaan-E-Mohabbat as far too slow and the visual effects could have been much better. Piyush Sahdev makes a wonderful entry and looks like one promising character we'll see on the show after Gurdeep. Not to mention, we are really looking forward to watching Shaheer and Sonarika on the show. What's your take on Dastaan-E-Mohabbat?
