There is strong buzz of Star Plus shutting its dopahar' programming
Star Plus' attempt to revive the perceptional ratings fertile' afternoon slot seems to have hit the wrong mark.
Star Dopahar initially opened to a good response but gradually slipped in viewer's interest.
The slot, which beams at 1pm, began with four shows, namely Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh Piyaji, Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka, Ek Aastha Aisi Bhee, Dhaai Kilo Prem and later Love Ka Hai Intezaar joined the programming tail. All the above shows had'comparitvely' strong star power and few weeks into airing, Tu Sooraj was shifted to an evening slot.
However, now we have learnt that the network is apparently contemplating on shutting the afternoon band of shows and in most probability take a decision (in favour of closure) in the next couple of days.
We have also been told by sources that Star Programming decision making mantle is being shared by Amit Chopra along with Gaurav Banerjee, which was earlier entirely supervised by Gaurav.
"Producers and show makers now sound off a story idea to Amit as well, informs a source.
Amit Chopra is CEO, Entertainment in Star Network and Gaurav Banerjee is President & Head, Content Studio.
At Star, lot is also riding on Star Bharat's fate. The shows have an appeal but look similar in storytelling. The bouquet' feel is missing and hope audiences don't get bored eating the same daal chawal' everyday. Different flavours catering to diverse audience interest is key to success of any channel.
We buzzed producer Sidharth Malhorta (maker of Love Ka Hai Intezar) to solicit a comment on the development but he remained out of reach.
Kanwar Dhillon, lead actor in Ek Aastha Aisi Bhee said, "I don't know what's going to happen, but we are doing good and if we sustain even better, we might get an evening or night slot. Apparently our time spent has gone up to 16 minutes which is better than even some prime time offerings.
Another actor (part of one of the above afternoon band shows) on grounds of anonymity shared that the news has hit the sets and when checked with channel authorities were asked to stay put till an official announcement is made.
We texted Gaurav to seek more information and seek a comment, however, he did not revert till the time of putting the article to bed.
