CHAPTER 4
Swadheenta entered Ahuja house in a hurry. The security had told her that Simmi and her father were both home. She wondered why Simmi hadn't picked up her calls or Abhay ' s. She herself had been extremely busy all afternoon discussing with her boss about a trial the next day. As she was leaving the office, she had seen numerous missed calls from Abhay who was worried that Simmi wasn't picking up his calls . He hadn't gone to Ahuja house lest he should find Mr Ahuja there. She had reassured him that Simmi waspprobably sleeping . After all she had been rather nervous the previous night. Abhay had calmed down after that explanation but she herself was distressed.
She saw Mr Ahuja striding across the room. He looked exhausted, angry and worried.
" Aao puttar. " He said as he caught sight of her.
"Uncle Simmi kahaan hai? theek hai na woh? "Swadheenta asked.
" Nahin puttar. Woh behosh ho gayi thi. Doctor ne kaha ki stress ki wajah se yeh sab hua hai. Abhi sangeet injection ke wajah se so rahi hai. "He told her.
Swadheenta knew how worried he was and expected him to ask her what was bothering Simmi . But he didn't.
" Puttar mujhe tujhse kuch baat karni hai. " He said.
But they were interrupted by his secretary who was asking about some party. Swadheenta saw him worried.
" Kya hua uncle? "She asked.
" Kuch nahin Swadheenta. Aaj ek zaroori meeting hai meri. Par main Simmi ko akele chhod kar nahin ja sakta. Isliye pareshan hoon. " He told her.
" Aap chale jaao. Main Simmi ke saath thodi der rukkar hi jaaongi. Don't worry. " She said.
Mr Ahuja thanked her and went to get ready. Swadheenta took out her phone and messaged Abhay that Simmi was sleeping. She didn't give him more details. He would be really worried if she told him what had happened.
She saw Simmi sleeping peacefully and sat down by her bedside. She picked up a magazine lying there and tried to read but it wasn't her type. She wasn't exactly the biggest fan of fashion. There was probably nothing in the room that would interest her. She and Simmi were the most unlikely of friends. They were poles apart. But they loved each other
Simmi was good at making friends and much better at losing them. She on the other hand, was a reserved and silent person and didn't make many friends. With Simmi it was a childhood experience that bonded them.
She was around 8 at the time. Asad was just a toddler and the Gillanis had just moved to Delhi. She had arrived there for the summer vacation to be with Asad. They were playing in the park near their home when she saw a girl about to fall off from a ride. Simmi was about 5 or 6 at the time. She hadn't liked her new nanny and had slipped away from her. On seeing a huge slide meant for older children she had climbed up just to annoy her nanny . But her target had been too busy with something else while Simmi was taken over by her fear of heights. The next moment she found herself dangling from the side. Swadheenta was the first to see this and had climbed up the slide and held Simmi's hand preventing her from falling till the elders had come.
"I am here. I won't let go of you. " Swadheenta had said that day and she never had.
Simmi trusted her implicitly and had come to depend on her. She had always protected and cared for her. But this time it wasn't goingto be easy. There was no wway she could make Suhasini Sinha change her mind. But she had to try for Simmi.
Swadheenta herself had never been romantically inclined. Love had always seemed to her a distraction. Now she knew it was undoubtedly trouble. Yet she wondered what would happen if she ever fell for someone. Simmi and Abhay ' s relationship made her think if it was really possible that for one person you could be ready to fight the world. She didn't know how exactly they had fallen in love but her friend loved Abhay. The thought of losing him had brought her to this condition.
But then the Sinha brothers really were adorable. She was surprised at her own thoughts. Sinha brothers? She should be thinking only about Abhay. But she couldn't stop thinking about his brother either. Adarsh Sinha. He was as much a charmer as Abhay. The brothers were different. Unlike Abhay, Adarsh was a shy guy. She remembered how he had been all flushed and confused every time he asked her out for coffee years ago. She was probably the first girl he had asked out. He had looked so cute and innocent. She chuckled at the memory.
"Swadheenta " she heard Simmi call in a feeble voice.
She realised that she was now standing near the window and hadn't seen Simmi wake up . Thanks to her thoughts about Mr Adarsh Sinha.
"Swadheenta concentrate. " She told herself as she helped Simmi to sit up.
"Swadheenta, Adarsh bhaiyya se mili? What is Abhay going to do? "Simmi asked her worried.
" Calm down. Abhay apni mom se baat karega. Adarsh too. Tum bas apna khayaal rakhna. " She told Simmi.
Simmi seemed to relax.
" What do you think about Adarsh bhaiyya? " Simmi asked.
Swadheenta looked at her confused.
"Matlab? " She asked.
" Matlab woh kaise hain? " Simmi asked again.
"He is a really good person. Very mature . Aur Abhay se kaafi attached hain. " She said and felt the heat rise in her cheeks.
Was she blushing?
She brushed aside that thought and went down to get some refreshments while Simmi freshened up.
" Simmi, khaane ke baad Abhay ko call kar lena. Bahot pareshan tha ki tum phone nahin utha rahi ho. Maine bas bataaya ki tum so rahi ho. "Swadheenta told Simmi as they were having dinner.
Simmi looked at her worried and said
" Mujhe tumse kuch kehna tha. Maine Papa ko sab bata diya. "
She explained to Swadheenta the events of the day. Swadheenta was confused but she understood Simmi. She just hoped Mr Ahuja wouldn't do anything that he would regret. She advised Simmi to tell Abhay about it. After some time she left for her home.
She was on her way back home when her phone rang.
" Adarsh Sinha? Why on earth is he calling me ?"She thought looking at the screen. A thousand weird ideas came to her mind. Brushing them aside she answered.
" Hi Adarsh here. Simmi ke ghar ki paas koi park hai na? " He asked in a haste.
" Yes. "She answered unable to understand what he wanted.
"Ok. Reach there as fast as you can. "He said hanging up before she could utter another word.
