Ash didnt respond to Customs department

MUMBAI: Soon after the Customs department decided to open the parcel purportedly meant for Aishwarya Rai, it sent a letter to the actor informing her that the parcel would have to be opened and that she could be present if she wanted to. There was no response from her, customs sources said.

It was then opened in mid-October in the presence of witnesses. After the contents turned out to be partly undeclared (the cash was not declared), which is a serious breach, she was sent another letter. She has not replied to that one either.

On Monday, her manager Hari Singh was contacted over the phone by a customs officer and told the department could not give her time beyond this week, after which she would have to be summoned under the Customs Act.

Singh claimed it was the first time he had heard of any such parcel. Customs sources said she was not under investigation. But if she chose not to cooperate, she could face action under the Customs Act. The parcel was consigned to her Khar address, Ram Laxmi Niwas, 16th Road, Khar (West), where she lived until last year. She is now a resident of La Mer building at Bandra Reclamation.
