We worry more about granting peace to the dead , rather than giving peace to the living. The complete episode is about a juxtaposition of all that is tranquil as opposed to all that is churned up as an uproar. Faith rituals that are handed down from generations to generations are used and applied formally .There purpose, is to impart peace to the dear departed soul ,plus to quieten and still sentiments of the grieving family. But where disparity exists for the living among the living themselves.. there the purpose of worship can be challenged. As Viplav does in today's episode and rattles the tenets of how rituals ought to be carried out to really please the gods. It's all about the living and not as much the dead!
If only devotees would know that the contrite, humbled and sincere heart is more pleasing to the gods rather than the higher order and esteemed visitors. Dhani arrives as she promised Viplav she would, without seeing her, he senses her walk behind him and looks up at her. This time Dhani went straight to Shambu's picture and offered her flowers to his memory . Her head moves to Viplav who sat ready for puja. With a subtle jerk of his head , and dipping of his sided eyes, he beckons her to come and sit on the vacant space beside him. Yes this was his way of showing ownership over her to all present. Dhani wants too, but knows it's not appropriate ,she was not his wife as yet ,only meant to be ..so she moves and sits beside dadi his princess that he loves.. If not vikal babu then the next best person muses Dhani. Viplav keeps a stiff upper lip ,not much he can do anyway? This is not the time or the place to fuss about where Dhani sits.. She came for you Viplav.. despite the treatment she gets in this house.. muses Viplav.
The puja for his fathers soul to rest ,begins and Viplav imitates the ritualistic actions of the priest opposite him. As part of the ritual kheer is required and Dhani offers to get it instead of dadi who has issues with her bones.. Dadi tells her where it is kept . For Viplav it's a treat to see her go by for the offertory ,just like the sweet dish she made for him at the Ashram.. he studies her lovingly as she passes the full shallow metal pot of kheer, but the transfer of the bowl is spurned out of completion by shalu! The pot is hurled across the floor the offertory splattered! made impure.. But worse still is the flow of accusation , abuse and degradation smeared over Dhani by shalu! My mother is right about her! she is one in auspicious widow! how dare she come for her fathers' worship , when mother sits in her room barred from the worship because she is a widow! .. All are in shock at shalu's disruptive behaviour ..was this a daughter grieving for her father or was this a banshee wound up by her mother whom the girl clearly refers too? But to Dhani it matters not , it's deep hurt that resides in her ,as she looks into the never before seen revulsion for her in shalu's eye for herself .. She was as white and pure like the offertory but now like the offertory once again her widowhood pronounces her as unclean , impure and auspicious! Shalu's words stab Viplav in the heart , she calls Dhani a shameless woman! Who took advantage of the fact that her brother loves her! She is self willed! Pretends to have no understanding of traditions and rituals? Dhani is shell shocked .. But Viplav isn't . Being the older brother he gets up from his place pulls his baby sister to face him, and at first patiently admonishes her like her older bro, he wants to know who filled her head with such rubbish? reminds her ,she says that her brother loves Dhani.. and she questions, Dhani's guts! Can she not see her guts ? can't she see what she's doing? So as her older bro ,he telling her to watch her mouth.. Viplav warns shalu , as he wags his finger in her face. The matter is not done and dusted as the issue of Dhani being a widow is then raised by the priest who says, if she is a widow ,then it's an insult to our priestly traditions! This kheer is now is impure it cannot be used as an offertory! Shalu begins her hate speech again! It's our dead father who has been insulted! This worship was meant to grant peace to his soul! and this kheer was to grant him eternal rest.. and she made it impure by touching it! screams shalu! But this time Viplav with full force, before all, slaps shalu across the face! this slap from Viplav is a righteous slap! given to a loved one who's warped views about vulnerable people need to be challenged publically! so that all can learn what really matters before the gods! Before them all devotes are equal.. shalu falls to one side and dadi ,Dhani and Dashrant are all shocked at the incident! shalu holds her cheek and looks up accusingly in hurt at her brother, you hit me your baby sister for this widow? but Viplav glares down at her with a stern expression, he had warned her.. so he had to tell her , her views are unacceptable! muses Viplav.. Dhani feels miserable , why did she come? her mother had warned her about her status ,it was still a bit woolly.. but she came for his love, his need for her.. Matters get from bad to worse..the priest questions Dashrant's head priest status , how can he allow s such practice under his nose. but Dashrant does defend Dhani as the would be bahu of the household.. and shalu in typical Kanak fashion shouts out challenges, she is would be daughter in law ,not daughter in law as yet!..viplav fed up of shalus' corrosive motor mouth pushes her out of the room get lost! and muses she has done enough damage even showed rudeness to dada ji in public..
The pandit gets uppity and warns ,Dashrant no excuses will do, he can commit the sin of including a widow ,but him and his devotees cannot be party to his sin.. he declares the puja incomplete due to the kheer and turns to leave. Dhani. guilt ridden , falls at his feet and begs him to complete the ritual. But the priest spurns and humiliates her bids her not to touch him and defile him! But Viplav raises her up , because he believes ,she is in the wrong, empowers her, no need for her to beg for forgiveness Dhani.. as she is not in the wrong! the pandit is in shock against Viplav's defiance.. but dashrant and dadi approve of Viplav's stand! Viplav then turns to the pandit who he reckons is grossly at fault . So before his exit he definitely needs to give the holy man a feed back on the message of faith he gave today!.. with joined hands Viplav sneers, they don't want him to be defiled in any way..so do us a favour kindly leave.. and then he repeats, just leave, and the pandit yells dramatically! Insult! gross insult!! l Dhani turns to look at Viplav's face , he looks stern , meant every word ,deed and action. How much he does for her. it leaves her in awe of him .. in every sticky situation , he stands by her , fights the whole world for her.. it frightens her , his bold ,vibrant ,empowering love frightens her , as it may turn people's backs up within the family.. like shalu got slapped because of her.. she probably hates her now ,even more. muses dhani
As one bigoted party exits.. the snake slithers down the stairs and plays all innocent as she asks about the puja ended already?spots the splattered kheer , all are quiet . Then she eyes her target Dhani , shows surprise, questions why is she here? it's her husband's worship , and she kept away, so why did she come here ? Viplav controls himself. who told her to come? she bullies Dhani and Viplav stands besides Dhani and says, confrontationally , he did mother! and she glares at him through and through! and witters on, has he forgotten all customs and practice? Viplav bellows ,does she believe that babba's soul will not get peace? If he finds out that she sat in his worship? then why this belief in a nonsensical practice? He challenges his mother. really ? she screams at him, all this is rubbish! then he'd better stop practicing them! shut up! he doesn't ,believe , but she's not dead as yet, she believes in rituals and traditions! So does the community ,the society ,all believe in them then why not him! argues Kanak ,as she scolds him. Kanak herself has summed up her unknowingly , he comes to challenge and change people's mindset ,who don't practice what they preach..kanak lectures him , listen when some one dies ,all has to be done for the peace of the soul. Kanak looks for excuses, to bad mouth ,jeers Dhani at every moment she getsThen angrily she turns to Dhani , he's childish he doesn't pay heed to them ,at least, she understands, since she is a widow! it was her husband's worship , she didn't come.. because she is a widow! but you turn up! have she no shame! right! when her husband died ,did she sit in his worship too? she turns to poke Dhani in her head and Viplav protects Dhani like a bird protects it's young from the talons of a vulture ! he yells at his mother, yes she has all the intelligence of the world! he has told them time again that this poor girl has nothing to do with babaa's death , but they will not leave her be! and shalu protests , yes he can shut us up! but due to this girl he raised his hand at his younger sister! but why won't he see it's all because of her this happened! mother's condition! the state of this house ,it's because of her! all entirely due to her! shalu shouts accusingly at Dhani who sobs silently.. but he still wants to side with her? after shalu has spewed enough poison, Kanak tells her to be quiet! and then starts.. on Viplav again.. go ahead! shut people's mouths ,how many can he stop? Dashrant speaks now and appeals for calm and Kanak rants , no her husband died and she feels very bitter .. Dhani cries out please forgive me mistress! She didn't do it deliberately.. she'll leave.. and Kanak snubs her ,stop her nonsense! due to her the worship stands incomplete! and because of Dhani , her husband's soul cannot rest in piece! because of her , her son remains unhappy! How much will she take?how much does she want to leave them alone? Kanak asks Dhani cruelly. Vilplav stands up for right.. nothing has happened due to Dhani!it was shalu who came and interrupted the worship! if shalu hadn't stopped pandit , the worship would have carried on as normal.. shalu is stunned into slience..viplav is never afraid to call a spade, a spade! And he turns to Dhani , she won't be going anywhere , she will stay right here beside him!.. the more Kanak maligns Dhani , the more Viplav sides her for all to see. shalu has lost a father who loved her to bits.unlike her mother ,and dadaji. Shalu apart from grieving . also puts in effort to go against Dhani to appease her mother's favour ,which she was denied all her life. turning against Dhani is an opportune way of gaining her mother's positive attention. Kanak ,knows shalu s dense and will easily be her puppet in building up a front against Dhani.
Viplav tells Dhani clearly ,she has to stop her blaming herself for everything. She is not responsible for his father's death.She is not inauspicious! Dramatically, much to Dashrant happiness , Viplav makes Dhani swear on his head ,that she will not blame herself or think of herself as jinxed and impure! Overcome he begs for her forgiveness as due to him she has to be humiliated time and again..
Only the family is left and dadi regrets ,that her sons' puja remains incomplete. Dhani comes up with an idea. Now dhani empowers Viplav that he can complete the puja.. as he belongs to the priestly Brahim clan. Thus, Dashrant prepares and guides Viplav and the dutiful son completes the puja for granting peace to his father's soul...
Kanak's is given enough trouble by her son and this Dhani widow. Her set up police party arrive and ask questions in the nature of where there any outsiders in the house at the time of Shambu's death. No surprises , Kanak names Dhani. The police goes and arrests Dhani from the Ashram , on suspicion of Shambu's murder ,and drive her to the police station ,where she undergoes interrogation by a police man as opposed to a lady constable.
Raji laxmi informs Viplav and he drives to the police station and literally barges into the interrogation room ,wipes Dhani's tears and assures her, he's by her side..
Great episode and packed to the top. Mishal,Eisha ,kajal were super along with the actor who plays shalu.. hamlet 53 20.1.16
