Pilot episode IKRS ~ Monday 10th August 2015

My take  on the first episode of IKRS.  It began straightaway, minus montage but with  a pure Hindi message about the status of widows in the setting  portrayed at large. To further emphasize the message, promos appear on screen showing harrowing situations, one particular widow comes across.

Finally against the back drop of a smoky night against the shores .. amid musical rhythms of  reinforcing  faith  chants by devotees  sound out, alongside lamps  afloat on the  belly of the sacred Ganges  river. All   spectacular!.  In stark comparison one is introduced to the male protagonist Viplav perched upon the bow  of his  private boat facing forwards! beer bottle  in hand he conducts the musical sounds around like a maestro!  To me a slightly irreverent but amusing sight!  The manner in which he stands on the pointed front end of the boat.. gives the image  of him ruling the seas!  Also , funnily enough the  chances of being frowned upon by locals seem unlikely! His body language shows the haughtiness of being  young, rich , influential!  Viplav is one of the lad type guy who celebrates his birthday with a few of his mates, at presumably midnight! The birthday wish from the girl! shows his popularity with females, and it's hilarious to note his simpleton local drinking partners question him innocently  if he'll marry the girl?

His answer of course is what most males exposed to city life are likely to say, about girls they party with. What impressed me is Viplav's answer, he is looking for a girl who is  pure and untouched!  and prompted by his fickle side  hastens to add such a  girl exists not in Banaras, neither in the universe!  the scene  gives an inkling into his character .. as  an answer to his statement.. the female protagonist is introduced.. observing ablution  in the purest of rivers  of the land

He catches a hazy sight of the girl... to me the eye of a predator..  soon after  he places a bet with his male local buddies about her age which he vouches is not more than early twenties! and thus begins his swim across the pure Ganges to confirm the age of the girl! it's matters to him to win this bet! as he knows more about girls ages then these local boys!

The hunt is on! the predator identifies the prey.. the chase begins .. then slowly he  approaches her in a befitting manner asks her for the offertory and then follows his questions about his winning the  bet.  Dhani's age.. it's amusing how he badgers her  ,scoffs ,mocks ,the lot at her!  but have to say ,she manages to dodge him!  and instead he becomes the butt of his mates humour of being cornered by the girl!  Now I wonder if Viplav has received a jolt to his ego? If so ,than  I suspect.. his predator tendencies will be enhanced and he will chase her further! That's part of the fun for him! Is he a boy who likes a girl in his class? yet wants to hurt her to get her attention?  but things  begin to heave between these two.. like the presence of the the pure water body Ganges that washes off impurities

Now the protagonist Dhani..had my attention in the episode.. I find  her ,sensible, caring and on the move in her widow's hostel, at the mandir.. interacting with other young widows..but she is young and gullible ..or does Dhani not consider herself as a doomed young widow? is she hopeless or does she hope for life??

The elite grandparents are introduced .. at the steps leading to the sacred river , interesting  clash of colours vibrant red and white. With the introduction of the the grand father is brought the element , that things are not as they seem  in the programme..

Basically it was to the point first episode, main characters, in their settings were introduced.. we find out some  details of the two leads.. and learn about who is likely to create hurdles between the lead. Yes Mishal was there very much.. the very fact that he was introduced straight away, bodes well for the show. Music ,,apart from Rekha bharadwaj's voice  is nothing much to write home about..

Hamlet53 11. 8.14.. from Laagi forum..  will try to post my  bits on IKRS..

Good post Hamie.
I think Viplav will fall in love for Dhani later. He is just interested in having fun..mocking her, avenging her for ignoring him maybe. Then suddenly he recognizes her situation. As a lawyer with gr8 sense of justice he'll start fighting for her rights..then love story starts. Coz as of now I don't think Viplav is taking Dhani seriously. Maybe I am wrong in judging the guy, who was drunk when he met Dhani first. Maybe Dhani is wrong in judging both men who came her way that day: the drunk guy and his grandfather. Upcoming episodes will tell. But I think from Dhani's pov first impression is the most important. She won't open up with Viplav easily. πŸ˜’

Hammieee...

amazing to see ya girl..

and what a beautiful web of words.
for some dumb reason i just couldn't get myself to read anything about Dutta and nakusha. i know i definitely missed out some really wonderful stories written by some really star writers such as yourself.

no such chance here.

me is gonna reserve first seat whenever you come up with anything..

once again...
beautiful writeup. ⭐️

(p.s: drinking near holy Ganges is common. she flows through huge networks. but drinking on ghats which is prayer ground... the man could get arrested or shooed away πŸ˜†. creative liberty)

@hamlet nice to have a writer like you..
I felt that he already got fit into his character.. but we are the one who are yet to make a habit to see him as viplav ..a casinova guy..totally different from Datta..

Dear Hammie,

I have not watched the 1st epi yet but since this Thread might get buried somewhere in the pages, It would be best to post as soon as possible.

Sorry, I know that this an altogether new show and should not make comparisons but like Priya(Scorpio10) who always speaks her mind, says get it out in the open, be yourself first. So sue me, I don't care but this how I feel, DSP will be DSP. LTL1 will be LTL1 for me no other can come anywhere close to it.

Now coming to your Thread, I will comment based on your view not seeing the episode myself. Bang on! Straight forward and direct in their respective views. No beating around the bush (so to say).  Your insight into the introduction of the first set of characters and the symbolism of their respective surroundings reflect the future of the coming episodes in the near future. I find this concept rather interesting. Though I haven't been exposed to such situations,  traditions and cultures, and even the society around one does influence one's livelihood.  What is normal in one place may be considered ridiculous in another, which, in a way I think is going to be what we see with Viplav and Dhani and their story. Like mentioned in the beginning, who sets these so called rules or traditions? Isn't it the people around. So how do we change limitations that essentially hinders a more content life?

His answer of course is what most males exposed to city life are likely to say, about girls they party with. What impressed me is Viplav's answer, he is looking for a girl who is  pure and untouched! Hmmm, is he pure and untouched? Or is this one of those double standards situation?  and prompted by his fickle side  hastens to add such a  girl exists not in Banaras, neither in the universe!  the scene  gives an inkling into his character .. as  an answer to his statement.. the female protagonist is introduced.. observing ablution  in the purest of rivers  of the land

I think the contrast between their two personalities and values/beliefs will be interesting. What's more interesting is he is 24 yrs old and behaving like a teenager making wagers about a girl...πŸ˜† but I guess they do say guys take longer to mature . I love the comparison of a boy picking on a girl in class to get her attention...that's what it seems like...but clearly this is all just beginning...and his reality and her reality are so different it will be something worth watching when they collide...

I guess that remains to be seen. She does seem do be what her part calls for...but the layers are yet to appear.

I guess I better go watch the next epi...soon.

c ya laters !
