Pilot episode IKRS ~ Monday 10th August 2015
My take on the first episode of IKRS. It began straightaway, minus montage but with a pure Hindi message about the status of widows in the setting portrayed at large. To further emphasize the message, promos appear on screen showing harrowing situations, one particular widow comes across.
Finally against the back drop of a smoky night against the shores .. amid musical rhythms of reinforcing faith chants by devotees sound out, alongside lamps afloat on the belly of the sacred Ganges river. All spectacular!. In stark comparison one is introduced to the male protagonist Viplav perched upon the bow of his private boat facing forwards! beer bottle in hand he conducts the musical sounds around like a maestro! To me a slightly irreverent but amusing sight! The manner in which he stands on the pointed front end of the boat.. gives the image of him ruling the seas! Also , funnily enough the chances of being frowned upon by locals seem unlikely! His body language shows the haughtiness of being young, rich , influential! Viplav is one of the lad type guy who celebrates his birthday with a few of his mates, at presumably midnight! The birthday wish from the girl! shows his popularity with females, and it's hilarious to note his simpleton local drinking partners question him innocently if he'll marry the girl?
His answer of course is what most males exposed to city life are likely to say, about girls they party with. What impressed me is Viplav's answer, he is looking for a girl who is pure and untouched! and prompted by his fickle side hastens to add such a girl exists not in Banaras, neither in the universe! the scene gives an inkling into his character .. as an answer to his statement.. the female protagonist is introduced.. observing ablution in the purest of rivers of the land
He catches a hazy sight of the girl... to me the eye of a predator.. soon after he places a bet with his male local buddies about her age which he vouches is not more than early twenties! and thus begins his swim across the pure Ganges to confirm the age of the girl! it's matters to him to win this bet! as he knows more about girls ages then these local boys!
The hunt is on! the predator identifies the prey.. the chase begins .. then slowly he approaches her in a befitting manner asks her for the offertory and then follows his questions about his winning the bet. Dhani's age.. it's amusing how he badgers her ,scoffs ,mocks ,the lot at her! but have to say ,she manages to dodge him! and instead he becomes the butt of his mates humour of being cornered by the girl! Now I wonder if Viplav has received a jolt to his ego? If so ,than I suspect.. his predator tendencies will be enhanced and he will chase her further! That's part of the fun for him! Is he a boy who likes a girl in his class? yet wants to hurt her to get her attention? but things begin to heave between these two.. like the presence of the the pure water body Ganges that washes off impurities
Now the protagonist Dhani..had my attention in the episode.. I find her ,sensible, caring and on the move in her widow's hostel, at the mandir.. interacting with other young widows..but she is young and gullible ..or does Dhani not consider herself as a doomed young widow? is she hopeless or does she hope for life??
The elite grandparents are introduced .. at the steps leading to the sacred river , interesting clash of colours vibrant red and white. With the introduction of the the grand father is brought the element , that things are not as they seem in the programme..
Basically
it was to the point first episode, main characters, in their settings were
introduced.. we find out some details of
the two leads.. and learn about who is likely to create hurdles between the
lead. Yes Mishal was there very much.. the very fact that he was introduced
straight away, bodes well for the show. Music ,,apart from Rekha bharadwaj's
voice is nothing much to write home
about..
Hamlet53 11. 8.14.. from Laagi forum.. will try to post my bits on IKRS..
