Fan Fiction Rules and Regulations

Meet the Moderators:

The Fan Fictions Forum is moderated currently by

Moderation: Not everyone on the Development Team has moderating powers. Coolbies do NOT fall under the category of moderation as they only provide timely updates to the forum. The moderation chain is as follows: Viewbies > Moderators > Channel Moderators> Global Moderators. Your first point of contact would be the section Viewbie or Moderator as they take care of the day to day happenings in the forum. If you have any issues regarding moderation, you can escalate  Global Moderator shruti., but any other issues need to be brought to the Section Development Team Moderators (Koeli) first. 

Any issues regarding Moderation or Warning Queries will be entertained only by PM to DT. Do not argue about rulings on the threads/open new posts regarding moderation and disrupt the atmosphere of the forum. Following the moderating Chain, approach Fanfiction moderator (Koeli) for any concerns. Finally, if the matter is still not resolved you are free to approach Global Moderators (shruti)  By no means, whatsoever it is, one is not supposed to open threads on the forum questioning the actions of a particular member of the DT or decisions taken pertaining to issues that have taken place, If such a thread is opened, it shall be closed immediately, asking the members to contact the DT via PMs. Strict action will be taken against repeat offenders. 

For Urgent Issues

At any point, if they're an urgent issue arises, please contact the DT first. If the FF DT does not respond to you after 72 hours, feel free to contact the Global moderator shruti or admin, Vijay. 

The Fanfiction Development Team wishes to inform everyone that as of March 17, 2013, the following rules will be implemented to the already existing rules and regulations of the FF section.  Henceforth, all the issues that the FF DT investigate will be based on the amendments described below, with regards to Plagiarism. 

The issue of plagiarism is alarming us and despite the rules, some continue to plagiarize!  Henceforth, anyone who engages in such act will be dealt with severity.  The penalty will be severe as described below:

Plagiarizing a PORTION/ PARAGRAPH:  The member will get an immediate raise in warning level by 20%, along with a three day closure of their fan fiction with a notice of plagiarism with the plagiarized content removed!  Each individual offense will be considered as a separate instance!

Example:  If a member was reported to have plagiarized in two separate fan fictions in this manner, their W/L will be raised by 40% along with three day closure for both FFs with notice of plagiarism left behind.   

However, for three or more instances (i.e. 3 or more FFs) of Plagiarizing a PORTION/ PARAGRAPH, the plagiarizer will get an immediate raise in warning level by 20%, and a notice of plagiarism will be left on the respective FFs with the plagiarized content removed and each FF will be closed for 1 - 2 weeks.  Two days after the notice of plagiarism, the offender will be temporarily banned for 1 - 2 weeks (depending on the extent of plagiarism).

Plagiarizing the ENTIRE CONTENT:  The thread will be locked immediately with a notice of plagiarism and the plagiarizer will get an immediate raise in warning level by 20%, Two days after the notice of plagiarism, the offender will be temporarily banned for 1 - 2 weeks (depending on the extent of plagiarism).  Shortly after the entire FF will be trashed.  Each individual offence of this nature will be considered as a separate instance.   

If someone continues to plagiarize despite being penalized in the above manner, their account could face a permanent ban with all their breaching FFs being trashed!  NOTE that each offence will accumulate throughout! 

Though it may seem very harsh, this is a very serious concern and everyone's effort should be credited accordingly!  It is NOT AT ALL fair to present OTHER'S WORK AS YOUR OWN!

Henceforth, these rules will apply to all Fan fictions across India-forums.com for uniformity purposes.

ADULT CONTENT

This topic has been extremely controversial at this forum for both the writers and the DevTeam members. Due to the increased problems the DT has to face regarding the mention of rape in FFs, here is a short explanation as to what's permitted and what is not.

Underage Molestation -> NO!
If it's mere background information of a character and you mention it briefly through a conversation or the character describing himself/herself, that's all right. If the rape scene is described AT ALL, the content will HAVE to be edited out immediately if brought to the attention of the Dev Team. If the content is NOT edited out and the author REFUSES to, the DT will be forced to edit out the content and lock the FF thread entirely.
Why? Because child molestation is illegal and such content breaks the law of several countries.

Rape In General/Sexual Scenes -> NO!
You have NO reason to describe a rape scene AT ALL or a sex scene. The Dev Team understands that sometimes, such scenes are essential for the progress of the storyline. The DT does not want to restrict the creativity of the members but even creativity has limits for an open forum in a family-friendly site. After all, this is the Internet and you always need to be careful of what you post here. Hence, you can post such scenes BUT in an extremely subtle way. If the scene is described graphically with body parts described and named along with an explanation of what's going on between the characters at that moment, you'll be warned and the content will need to be removed. Some members even use dirty talk between the characters while describing such scenes. That is also an absolute no. Use of derogatory language is already not permitted; dirty talk is out of the question. If you're unsure about what dirty talk is exactly, PM me or you can check the definition in Google.

Kissing Scenes-> YES!
There have been a lot of questions regarding kissing scenes in stories. Our answer to those questions is, yes. You can include kissing scenes for exactly two reasons, Tellywood no longer feels ashamed to depict kissing scenes in their shows so it's alright and two, it's safe ... so you don't have to worry about your young readers.

Using The 18+/Mature Content Label -> NO!
Just don't post mature content on the forum and you won't need the warning. As is it, there is no guarantee that underage readers will stop reading upon viewing your warning; therefore, it's not efficient. So, Don'tpost graphic content, don't use the warnings.

Describing The Rape Scene In A Good Light -> NO!
Although this constantly brings me back to 'don't post graphic content' over and over again, it won't be enough if I said a thousand times anyway. If you describe rape in a good light or encourage it, you will be issued a warning immediately -PUBLICLY, in your FF thread.

Posting Blog Links -> NO!
This is another issue we've had. After asking members to remove the graphic content from their FF, they resort to posting the link to their blogs in their FF thread. Promoting your blog in your FF thread is NOT ALLOWED. Do not do that. If you want to PM the link, that is your call. But DON'T post it in your FF threads. Do not place the link in your sig boxes either.

IF Codes -> HowTo
The No Copy code makes it harder for members and non-members to copy your work because that code disables copying the content. The No Copy code works ONLY for ONE page. That is theMAIN PAGE.
All you have to do to use it is, write [NO COPY] -without that space between the "no and copy' either at the top of your thread or the bottom.

The Members Only code makes it impossible for non-members to view your content. Only members of IF can.
To use it, type [MEMBERS ONLY] - without the space between the "members and only" either at the bottom or top of the page.

The red message[s] displayed on this thread is what you should get.

RPFs [Real Person Fiction]

Real Person Fiction is a type of Fan Fiction that is written on the celebrities essaying characters in a show or movie instead of the characters. [For example, Afan fiction was written on Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani instead of Arnavand Khushi]. The Fan Fictions Forum will not permit such fanfictions on the forum. The forum is a platform for creativity, not a platform for fan wars and conflict. Such stories can be posted in your own personal blogs.

Anyone found to have violated this rule (any threads posted after February 5th, 2015) will face a 20% Warning Level Raise and the thread will be locked permanently. To finalize this, the rule applies to ALL forums on India-Forums.

Language In Fan Fictions

Abusive/Derogatory Language

The usage of curse words is prohibited in India-Forums in any thread. However, the FF DT is allowing a certain amount of leniency in this matter in Fan Fictions. You may only be permitted to use the first letter and the rest must be starred out. [For example f***].

If you are unsure of a certain word and whether or not it needs to be starred out, contact the Development Team. If any usage of curse words (without them starred out) are found, the DT will edit out the content and issue a Warning PM to the offender. The second time will result in a Warning Level raise.

Any abusive words used against another member on IF in any thread will result in a direct Warning Level raise and the removal of the violating word.

Racially Discriminatory/Offensive Language

 Anything that can be/is deemed offensive or discriminatory is prohibited in Fan Fictions (especially racially discriminatory language). You are not permitted to degrade another religion, race, ethnicity, culture, nationality or gender. You may also not throw a negative light on any sexual orientation. The rule is not limited to the mentioned concepts but applies to anything considered offensive to the DT's discretion. 

Note: If the storyline demands a certain belief or dialogue that violates this rule, please double-check with the Development Team. More often than not, you will be granted permission with certain conditions!

Chatting/Spamming

TheFan Fictions Forum is specifically reserved for posting stories, it is not for chatting. India-Forums has several forums where chatting is permitted.

   What we now are permitting are the following:

   *Congratulations comments for new threads

   *Reserved posts for later editing  - [this was permitted earlier as well but mentioning in case 

     members are unaware].

   *Any comments in acknowledgement to note the author may have posted: 'We understand', 'No

     problem, we will wait', etc'. But these will only be allowed if there has been a note posted by the     

     author!

   *Discussion relevant to the story whether that's giving suggestions or comparing and contrasting

     the story to another story/show/movie.

   What will STILL not be permitted?

   *No unnecessary 'update soon' comments UNLESS it is in response to a note.

   *No only emoticon comments [which has been a rule right from the start - it's even stated in the

   disclaimer box beside the comment box].

   *No unrelated discussion.

   *Absolutely no chatting. IF has a chat club for that. 

If any author's Fan Fiction thread is found to be violating this rule, a warning will be issued in the thread. The second time it occurs (for the same author - it does not have to be the same thread), the violating Fan Fiction thread will be subject to a three days lockdown.

Advertising

Private Messages/Threads

Harassing members by sending them PMs to your Fan Fictions and/or posting your FF links in other Fan Fictions without the permission of the member is strictly prohibited. If you require assistance to advertise your fan fiction, you may request it here -> Writer To [Reader] Writer. Anyone found guilty of violating this rule will be issued a Warning and a 20% Warning Level Raise the second time.

Blog Links

Blog links are not permitted to be posted in India-Forums. Do not promote your blog link through your Fan Fiction thread. The first time, the DT will edit it out and issue you a warning PM. The second time, it will be a Warning Level Raise. You are allowed to PM the blog link to your readers but you may not post it in threads or your signature boxes.

Multiple IDs [MIDs]

The usage of multiple IDs is restricted according to the IF COC however, fanfiction writers are granted permission to create a second ID for ONLY their Fan Fiction [to send out PMs, post updates, etc]. If you are found to have been using the second ID for anything other than that [posting comments in other threads, harassing members, voting contests, etc], you will face a direct Warning Level increase. It will also result in the permanent ban of the second ID.

Page Limit

One thread is restricted to 150 pages, maximum. Once your thread has reached the maximum number of pages permitted, please create a new thread for your fan fiction. If a thread exceeding 150 pages is found, the DT will close it down.

Report Button

The Report Button is to ONLY be used when a member has violated the rules of this forum. Any other unnecessary reports will go unanswered. The wrong usage of the report button may also result in an increase in your warning level if it is continued.  

Art Requests

All requests for banners and/or sigs for stories posted on India-Forums [at any forum] can be requested at the latest  Fan-Fiction Book Cover Shop #19  stickied at this forum. For further additional rules of the shop, please visit the shop thread.

Regarding FFs being shifted out 

We have gotten numerous requests/suggestions about keeping fan fictions in their respective show forums and not shifting them to the FF section. After much contemplation, the Development Team has come to a decision that Fan Fictions (FF/OS/SS) can stay in the forum and will not be shifted to the FanFiction section unless it is requested by the author. However, there will be some guidelines that we expect members to follow.

The FF/OS/SS can stay in the main forum as long as it abides by the I-F fan fiction rules (|| Fan Fiction Forum Rules & Regulations ||). Members can discuss the story and post their feedback on chapters/updates but no spamming (thank you, thanks, TY's etc.) or personal chatting will be allowed. Demands citing that the next chapter will be posted only after the current update gets so many amounts of likes/comments will not be tolerated. This will allow discussion topics to be more readily available on the main page.

We hope the members will cooperate and help us in maintaining forum decorum. Writers who continuously breach FF rules could see their writing piece moved out without notice. Since we are meeting you halfway, we expect the same from your end.
