Then how do u explain the failure of Mangal pandey, veer, chandranukhi, asoka etc they were all period flicks like BV LOL a bad film is a bad film no one can save it, even Aamir couldn't have saved BV

Add Jodha Akbar/ Parineeta/ Lagaan extremely successful movies

JA, Parinneta and lagaan were family films with great music BV had nothing going for it Dark theme, period film with non commercial music , everyone  knew it was going to flop

The biggest hit of Indian Cinema, Mugha-e-azam was a period film. What are people talking about?LOL A well-made film or an average film with truly popular actors will always do well. BV fulfills neither criteria. It is not a well-made film and it does not have popular actors in the league of Khans.

Yes they love to hide their failures by saying its for " niche" audience. You make BS you get BS...hope its a lesson for the other period movie makers.

True. BS is BS. No matter how many excuse you come up with.

As for period movies; Lagaan and Mughal-e-Azam are perfect examples of what you can achieve in period; movie making if you get them right and have a story to tell.

Especially Lagaan;
It had off-beat songs.
A hero in a Dhoti and a dark heroine.
It clashed with Gaddar; one of biggest hits of all time.
It was made on cricket.
Was shot in Bhuj.
And you had the actors speaking a different dialect all-together.

Almost all things that BW industry had in its not to do list. Yet it went on to be a smashing success at the BO.

When you have no story, you cant blame the public for it not working.

Is period movies a curse in India has any movie succedded
Damn looking at BV reviews feel DBB got better than this and atleast managed BelowAverage , This is getting negative reviews even on twitter
I think for most of the period movies, story gets lost in set, location, grandeour, costume etc
But when well made those becomes epic like JA, Laagan
Though not a forum's choice, Ramleela, Devdas too did very good business in period set up
DBB was not true to Byomkesh Story, Dibakar made it very complicated. Had he been sticked to original story, it could have done decent business.
DBB was his interpretition but was tad slow and Raamleela wasnt period it was current dayy only :p
Lagaan had cricket India's passion but i vaguely remember even it wasnt runaway hit something around average (might be wrong)
Devdas was yes but acc to me it wasnt completely periodic
I agree with JA but
DBB is Dibakar's interpretation but people expected Saradindu's Byomkesh so they were dissapointed
When Laagan was released no one had a idea that it has cricket, it was ATBB but hit none the less.
Ofcourse Devdas was period movie, the story was set in feudal Bengal
You are correct for RL. The costume and set up was periodic but it was of modern time
sorry but DBB any day over sadakchaap RL Dead
