ya! they r not even being blamed for picking the film. cz on canvas it seems to be impressive. and they r being lauded all over for their acting.. so i iwll take that as a positive.

For a while maybe. But I think he is too much of an actor to completely clamp up and stop experimenting.

Bombay Velvet Movie Review:

http://thelazyfeed.com/bombay-velvet-movie-reviewrating-ranbir-kapoor-anushka-sharma-karan-johar/

Bombay Velvet is one of those few movies which have the ability to get your attention right from the very first scene. Just as the opening credits roll, Amit Trivedi's jazz number takes the viewers up to a nostalgic journey. A gritty drama based in Bombay of late 60's, it shows the love story of Balraj and Rosie. The movie definitely impressed everyone being a great technical product as the scenes created in 60's are just mind blowing. The transformation of Bombay in to Mumbai keeps the viewers glued to their seats.

The first half of the movie runs at a frenetic speed as many important events and character introductions are in the first half, hence viewers might feel loosing track of the story. The pace slows down as the movie reaches the interval and the second half becomes boring and confusing. Ranbir Kapoor once again impressed with his awesome acting skills and shows variation while jumping from a violent lover to cruel killer. Karan Johar's role as douche bag definitely left a good impression, until the climax.

The climax of the movie is violent as Johnny goes into a relentless killing spree with a machine gun. Some mysteries somehow remain unsolved like Khambata never revealed Rosie being Mistry's mole. The purpose of Vivan Shah's role was not clarified till the end.

Ranbir Kapoor as Johnny Balraj - A boxer turned gangster looks extremely attractive in boxing vest. The story begins in 1949 when the young Johnny enters the big bad city with his foster mother with just one aim - to be a big-shot. He starts smuggling and street fighting to survive with his side-kick Chiman (Satyadeep Mishra). He falls in love with Rosie after seeing her in a bar for the first time. Later, he becomes the right-hand man of Mistry's opponent Khambata and owns a club named as Bombay Velvet.

Anuskha Sharma as Rosie - Young Rosie was taken away from her mother by a creepy musician with a promise to turn her into a great singer, but she only gets physical and sexual abuse in return. She escapes from his clutches and lands in Bombay and becomes a part-time bar singer. She is whisked away by Mistry and is later made the lead jazz singer at Bombay Velvet.

Karan Johar as Kaizad Khambata - Kaizad Khambata, a shady land-dealer, is the strongest opponent of Mistry in newspaper business. He plays the role of a villain and doesn't hesitate to pimp out his own wife to his opponents to trap them into a compromising position. Being a homosexual, he seems to care only about Johnny in the movie despite of using him for all his dirty work.

Positives of Bombay Velvet:

  • Ranbir Kapoor - Tapori Language and Acting
  • Anuskha Sharma in Gorgeous Jazz Avatar
  • Sizzling Chemistry
  • Music and Background Score
  • Karan Johar - Extraordinary Acting Debut
  • Soundest Technical Product
  • Great detailing in costumes, makeup and jazz of 1950 and 60's era

Negatives of Bombay Velvet:

  • Super-fast First Half
  • Boring Second Half
  • Clich Screenplay and Dialogues
  • Under-utilized Kay Kay Menon
  • Loose Threads in Script
  • Limited Appeal
  • Editing

Conclusion: Despite a few flaws in the second half, Bombay Velvet can be watched just for the sake of Ranbir-Anushka's sizzling chemistry. This movie beautifully described the transformation of Bombay into Mumbai along with Karan Johar's surprising acting. In nutshell, the movie is a simple and pure love story and journey of Johnny to be a big-shot. Well, if you are expecting another Gangs of Wasseypur from Anurag Kashyap, better give it a miss and save your bucks.

Yeah his next few films are commercial films anyway..Am still scared of JJ..That sounds like a bigger mess right now..I just want them to get done with it so they can start on Kishore Kumar's biopic..Thats one film am really really confident about right from the time it was announced LOL
