I think one thing people should learn from this is the difference between a director and a writer. Writers get zero credit in BW. If the script is good, the director gets the credit and vice versa. Then people are confused about how a Dibakar Bannerjee could make an "Oye lucky lucky oye" and a DBB. But he didn't write either of those scripts. Same for Anurag. So many people think raju Hirani scripts his own films. He doesn't. People wonder why the first Munnabhai was different from his other films, well it's because it had a different writer.
The point I am trying to make is, the script doesn't appear out of nowhere at the directors command. Instead of just looking at directors and actors, we should look at writers too.

Unfortunately Anurag co-wrote the script. He himself told a story in a video interview about how him and another writer (Vasan Bala?) wrote the script together in one stretch somewhere in a dingy room. Maybe it was a Bollywood Hungama one, most likely.

Yeah, well, I guess the "co-writer" is important too LOL B.t.w, I think Gyan Prakash or someone said BV had 12 writers.  These are four of them "Vasan Bala, Gyan Prakash, Anurag Kashyap and S. Thanikachalam"

Abbas Tyrewala made Jaane Tu ya Jaane na which was decent

Ummm and Dibaker did co-write DBB as well...is it so hard to imagine that creative ppl can EVOLVE as they make new films?   We all want them to keep making the same film over and over again...but at the end of the day they aren't robots...creative souls are restless...they want to make something that drives them...and mistakes are very much possible along the way...there is no 100% success rate.

Anyways at the end of the day, opinions will remains subjective...DBB was actually more of a rebel in terms of scripting cuz it literally didn't have a single element of typical Hindi movie trappings...no epic love story, no sweeping love ballads, songs...BV seems to have those elements, still it's floundering...so then what is the perfect formula, oh learned ones?LOL

Atleast Dibaker stuck to his guns and didn't throw in a love story for the sake of giving his movie a typical elementLOL

I don't know how humiliating is this for Ranbir but now he has 2depend on his ex @deepikapadukone to save his career as emerging super star.

W*F is up with the title? Confused  Anyways, i saw the film & am not sure where to start LOL  Suffice to say i was very disappointed..What exactly did Kashyap plan to show? An epic love saga? A story of class conflict & tug-of-war between capitalism & socialism? No idea cos the film is literally a kichdi of all this & more LOL  You can tell a lot has been edited out to make the film crisp but in the process a lot is left to the imagination of the viewers which is not a good thing..Its one thing to be subtle & another to be extremely random & haphazard LOL Why exactly did Khambatta trust Johnny in 30 seconds & take him under his wing ? How exactly did Johnny & Rosie fall in love? These are all so crucial to the story & Kashyap just rushes through them..You have 2 complex characters..One who is a problem child who is ambitious to a fault & the other who is a victim of sexual assault & is extremely vulnerable and two very competent actors to play the role..Just the way they look at eachother screams love..Their subtle interactions, dialogues- literally everything indicates how much they love eachother..But is that sufficient? Is it not necessary to set up the story & gradually show the transition? Especially when the girl is here to con the guy yet cant help but fall for him..Its supposed to be an epic love saga not a casual fling for god's sake LOL  For instance, the climax IMO was brilliant..The parting shot was stunning..Its a tragedy yet Johnny got what he wanted..It could have been one of the most impactful ends..But unfortunately, since Anurag din bother to set up the story & there is just so much going on, climax just doesn't hit you the way it was supposed to..So much potential squandered..And W*F was Raveena doing in the film? She looked like a witch & it almost looked like Anurag took revenge on her cos she hardly there for 20 seconds LOL
Anyways, now that am done ranting, am gonna gush cos thats what the actors deserveLOL(SPOILERS AHEAD) RANBIR KAPOOR- Damn where do i start..He is phenomenal as Johnny Balraj..The film is flawed on so many levels & downright boring at times yet there is not one false note in his performance..He owns the character & how..That moment when he first spots Rosie, that scene where he clicks pictures of that Minister banging Khambatta's wife, that scene where he tells Rosie to call him a big shot once he dies, that scene where he realizes Rosie is betraying him, that scene where his friend dies & the reality dawns on him or the climax- its a Ranbir show all the way..I can go on & on about how horrible the film was & how brilliant Ranbir was despite everything LOL  And Anu was really good too..Whether its that scene where she tells Johnny that she'l die before him or confronts Manish ( that bit where she slaps him is brilliant) or that scene where she literally begs Johnny to trust her- Anu is fabulous..And if i had to pick one person who shines through out the film, it has to be Satyadeep Missra..He is so so endearing as Johnny's friend and he & Ranbir played off eachother really well..And Karan..Damn him LOL  Where do i start? Towards the end, Johnny is literally begging him to free Rosie & Karan with that poker face of his says- Rosie me aisa kya hai jo mujhme nahi hai Johnny?' LOL  Just the way he says it- he brought the theatre down LOL  And when Johnny stabs him to death, instead of looking pained, he almost looks turned on LOLLOL  And the other scene where he laughs at Johnny's English was his absolute best LOL  He was atleast unintentionally hilarious so job well done LOL So yeah, now that am done with my essay, this is precisely why the film doesn't work..It has moments of brilliance yet it doesn't really translate to a brilliant story & the transition in many parts is quite jarring to say the least..This despite brilliant songs, brilliant cinematography & an extremely talented ensemble cast..Opportunity wasted is all i can say..Despite all this, i don really regret watching the film cos well, Ranbir just reminded me why i am a fan..I had the same feeling after watching Rockstar..Deja vu LOL
