CHYD epi yest - promo of 2 special and why Samudra again ? they had come once. I think both these plays are dialogue heavy. Best moment of the epi was straight forward Jitu saying to NB that Jyamule TRP vadhlay te chalu hou dya - before starting the usual skits. But skits were quite ordinary.

There's a news report of a 'Majestic Gappa' interview session of Sachin Khedekar in today's MaTA (Pune ed). He has called all current marketing of movies as 'hypocrisy' (dAmbhiktechA vyawahAr) and said that if your work is good, it sells by itself and don't need so much marketing.

I don't agree that good work doesn't need marketing / branding but I believe that bad work can sell by marketing. I present the relative lack of success of good non-ZM movies and the incredible success of ordinary ZM movies as exhibits A & B of my argument.

If Sachin Khedekar is taking a shot at ZM's over-the-top, saturation marketing of their movies, I am with him. He also calls working in TV serials as bad for an artist. He said the instant popularity the serials generate also dissipates instantly when the serial gets over. He also said spontaneity is good but unless it is complemented by reading, too much spontaneity can ruin an actor. He credits the guidance of senior artists like Vinay Apte and exposure to Marathi stage in his early years for his longevity.

I remember Chinmay & Madhura Welankar promoting 'Mr & Mrs' but don't remember CHYD promoting 'Doan Special' or 'Samudra'. Girija appeared on CHYD for the first time, so your recall seems to be wrong in this case.

Most of the Marathi plays are dialogue-heavy these days and light on storyline / events/ incidents/ action. That's why I liked 'BechkI' - probably the best one I have seen in quite some time. 'Begum memory AThwaN gulAm' was also different in that sense.

Then again, all plays of KusumAgraj and Vasant Kanetkar - 'naTasamrAT', 'rAygaDAlA jewhA jAg yete', 'ashrUnchI jhAlI phule', 'ithe oshALalA mrutyU', 'wIj mhaNAlI dharatIlA' and even the recent 'sUrya pAhilelA mANUs' were all about dialogues. So it's not a new trend.

SW : i was referring repeat run of Samudra only. I know 2 special is new and could not have come earlier on CHYD. But I definitely remember spruha & CM coming to CHYD for samudra. They recently completed century of Samudra plays.

Yes, NJ, I knew it yesterday night and had come to the forum to post about it but amidst the office work and calls to India all I could do is reply to SW's post. 😔

There is so much of his writing available on various websites (that discuss in detail his poems, shayari, nazms etc) and books too. I feel lot of his writing is reflective of the times in which he grew up .

I agree movie songs are made based on the demand of the situation, but if that was his habit, chand and chandani can come in any time 😛. So many hit marathi romantic songs are incomplete without the "chandane" 😳

Anyone remembers Mirza Ghaalib serial on DD starring Nasseruddin Shah? Beautiful Gazals in this TV series directed by Gulzar sahab. Most of them sung by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh ❤️
