Happy Mother's Day: Top five types of moms you'll find on Indian TV

Time was when telly mommies, like the ones we got so used to seeing on the big screens, were the last words on everything maternal, always inspiring calmness and comfort. Not any more. The new mommies in our TV serials are hot, happening and melodramatic, at times even conniving. With multiple layers of make-up and designer clothes, these new-age moms are here to give fledgling young beauties a run for their money.

This Mother's Day, let's take a look at some popular mothers on the small screen.

Struggling moms
*Ragini Patel Khanna (Pallavi Kulkarni) is a supermom who fights every odd to raise her children and educate them in Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar.

*Whereas, Sneha Mathur (Gautami Kapoor) in Tere Sheher Mein is a woman who is fighting a battle within trying to cope up with her husband's suicide, and trying hard to give her three daughters a better life at the same time.

From L to R: Binny Sharma, Gautami Kapoor and Pallavi Kulkarni.

*Then, there is the domineering mother-in-law at home who does every possible trick to create problems between the mother and her children and husband. Pratibha Mahendra Agarwal (Binny Sharma) in Hello Pratibha essays the role of monster-in-law to perfection.

Over-protective moms
*How we all wish our mothers were like Surekha Agarwal (Amita Khopkar) of Tu Mera Hero. She pampers her son Titu and supports him being a lazy soul as she believes her husband have earned enough for him to lead a happy life.

*In Kumkum Bhagya, Sarla Arora (Supriya Shukla) is always updated about both her daughter's, Parul and Pragya's lives and is often seen worried about them.

From L to R: Amita Khopkar, Supriya Shukla, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Utkarsha Naik.

*Mamta Laxminarayan Thakur (Supriya Pilgaonkar) in Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls is the modern version of Mrs Bennet (Pride And Prejudice), who is always worried about finding suitable matches for her daughters.

*And then there are mothers like Amba Vaghela (Utkarsha Naik) in Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi who harms everyone else to keep her son, Ranveer, happy.

Loving moms
*The way Dr Ishita Raman Kumar Bhalla (Divyanka Tripathi) takes care of her step-daughter Ruhi in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is unbelievable. Ishita's life moves around her.

*To an extent, same can be said about Sharmistha (Parineeta Borthakur) of Swaragini. Her love for her own daughter, Swara, and step-daughter Ragini, are equally pure.

From L to R: Sonali Sachdev, Parineeta Borthakur, Gurdeep Kohli and Divyanka Tripathi.

*In Satrangi Sasural, Vihaan has six mothers along with his real maa (Sonali Sachdev) who love him more than anything else.

*Anandita Ram Ahuja (Gurdeep Kohli) is yet another mother who sacrifices her costly treatment to save the money for her children's future in Dil Ki Baatein Dil Hi Jaane.

Hilarious moms
*The Punjabi righteous Tarawanti Verma (Upasana Singh) makes everyone laugh-out-loud with her antics in Total Nadaniyaan. Her trademark one liner is of course 'UFF yeh nadaaniya'.

*Daya Jethalal Gada (Disha Vakani) is also one mother whose way of talking itself is comical in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. But the funniest part is the way Daya ben treats her son, Tapu, in the show.

From L to R: Disha Vakani, Amrita Raja and Upasana Singh.

*Talking about funny mothers we can't miss Farida Dadi (Amrita Raja) in Maan Na Maan Main Tera Mehman, who is very particular about the way her sons, Hetal and Harsh, behaves and are always after them in the way they should lead their lives.

Villainous moms
*Talking about villainous mothers the first name that comes to our mind is Shagun Arora (Anita Hassanandani) in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. She is a selfish individual who sacrifices her children to lead a lavish lifestyle.

From L to R: Kishwar Merchant, Narayani Shastri and Anita Hassanandani.

*Bhanvri Devi (Narayani Shastri) in Piya Rangrezz is yet another mother for whom power is more important than her son. She even uses him to succeed.

*While Nyonika Malhotra (Kishwar Merchant) shares a very difficult relationship with her son, Manik. She looks at him like a pawn to build her business empire.
