This rule has been for years. SL players are singalises. And singalises had killed alot of tamil people in the the war. So tamil people in tamil nadu have been protesting that SL players must not play in Chennai during IPL. Since Tamil Nadu can't get enough security their have decided this. 😃

Then you might ask what this has with SL players? Well, some of those players like Muliratharan said that tamil people did not get killed during the war, and said something stupid things, which was the reason for the protesting.
