Today, Vettaiyan has shown his true colors. I thought he had one sided love, but there is no love. His problem is with Tamil, and he didn't mind taking that on Meenatchi. Saravanan on the other hand refused to hurt Tamil that he was willing to sacrifice his love. He refused to hurt Vaithi's love while his love suffered. This kind of dedication won Tamil's heart and Vaithi's heart. This led to Vaithi's support for him even after knowing that he was their enemy Saravanan's son. Today, even Tamil has realized Saravanan is far better than Vettaiyan. He also accepted Saravanan though he is his arch enemies son. On the other hand,Vettaiyan is all out to fight Tamil, and part of a lie that could destroy Meenatchi. Lie is not an answer to another lie. If Tamil lied, he is a liar. If Vettaiyan and RS lied, they are liars too. Truth is the correct answer to lie. It's high time RS opens his mouth and speaks the truth. Truth is not overrated. While everybody is trying to make Vettaiyan and Meenatchi's marriage work, they are completely disregarding the heart and the soul of Meenatchi that is caught in the middle of their game.
When Tamil lied, the motive was to find out what's in her heart. He made the mistake of getting Meenatchi to marry Vettaiyan, he realized his mistake, he knew Vettaiyan is only pretending to take her back to Saravanan, and he was willing to correct his mistake and really take her back to Saravanan. Whether he is able to do that or not, he was on the right track. He is willing to let go of 25 year old enmity. The hope he gave might be a possibility, because Saratha doubted that Saro might have written that letter and RS paused before saying it is not possible.
When RS and Vettaiyan lied, there sole purpose is to get Meenatchi accept Vettaiyan. They were self serving. They didn't care about the emotional turmoil Meenatchi will go through. Also, it destroys the character of Saravanan. In the western countries it is a punishable crime. Killing ones character is considered murder.
Even if she never gets back to Saravanan, it's better for her to live with those thoughts and a hope that some day she would get back to him, than to share those with Vettaiyan. Saravanan told Shyamala, "I don't want to share the feelings I had for Meenatchi with another girl." These two really make good partners.
Vettaiyan got married knowingly that Meenatchi loves Saro and she will only love Saro. He committed himself to join her back to Saro. He cannot be true to his commitment because deep inside he is a different person. He wants Meenatchi at all cost. So, he is living a double life, unstable in all his ways. He is getting sympathy from all the people around him and manipulating the situations very well for his benefit. His double life is also extended to Kalai Arassi. He doesn't want to get close, at the same time he doesn't want to completely cut her off. She is his plan-B.
In the movie Madharasapattinam, Amy Jackson comes back to India from England for her first love. Though she married someone else and had children, the first love never left her. This is reality. Meenatchi's love is much stronger and deeper than that of Amy Jackson's in Madharasapattinam. When Meenatchi and Saravanan were going to separate voluntarily, the last farewell conversation she had with him was so touching. The love kept developing after that even stronger.
