Interesting post Adhi :)

Before we even get into the details of moralistic middle-class, I was just wondering, how do you perceive moralistic middle-class, does it even exist? How do you think Nyo perceive Nandini, cause she her self is no far less than Nandini's class, before she married Manik's dad (didn't Manik once mentioned  to Nyo that "ambition young women marries rich old man to get rich" -  when Nandini was in hospital)  So do you really think this has anything to do with moralistic middle-class or just words thrown around for her pleasure..

Nyo's unnatural obsession with her son is described in two word "narcissism mother"!  There is no end to her evil for her son, till she has full control over him..

Maybe nandini reminds her of the background she has tried erasing..the only way manik has been able to shut her up is by evoking it...it's her vulnerability, perhaps...which is why she hates no one as much as nandini..at least from the info we have now..lol

I think Nyo strives on power and control. When she saw Manik's care and concern for Nandini, she felt threatened by Nandini's power over Manik. She had once told Harshad that only she has the right to hurt Manik. During the fire sequence, she saw Manik hurting, his vulnerable side, his concern for a chit of a girl. She saw her control over Manik slipping. All these caustic words are probably her way of exercising her power...
