The Originals' season 2 spoilers: What comes next for new Rebekah?

If you watched the winter finale for "The Originals," then you are already very much aware of one thing: We no longer have Claire Holt running around as Rebekah. Due to the character jumping into a new body, the show accomplished two things: It set up yet another crazy twist for the show, and at the same time, they also found a way to keep Rebekah around. Holt is busy on other things, and we know that she at least auditioned to play Supergirl.

Some of her new exploits are going to be made apparent during the show's January 19 return to TV entitled "Gonna Set Your Flag on Fire." At the same time, the new synopsis released by The CW makes it very clear that there is quite a bit unfolding in New Orleans for Klaus, Elijah, and everyone else in the cast:

"With Vincent (guest star Yusuf Gatewood) on the loose and hell bent on revenge, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) brings Cami (Leah Pipes) to the safe house as he and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) return to the compound. Hayley and Jackson (guest star Nathan Parsons) devise a plan to bring the vampires and werewolves together to consider a truce, but tensions grow when Vincent places a spell on the compound, trapping the two sides together. Meanwhile, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) grows concerned when Rebekah fails to show up at the safe house, prompting Klaus to confront Kaleb (guest star Daniel Sharman) for answers. Lastly, after accepting her mother's offer to jump into a new body, Rebekah (guest star Maisie Richardson-Sellers) turns to former Harvest girl Cassie (guest star Natalie Dreyfuss) for help when she finds herself trapped inside an insane asylum."

The biggest thing we wonder right now is this: How much turmoil do you put some of these characters through without another threat of death? Something that has sapped away a little bit of the tension on the show lately is that ultimately, nobody really seems to go anywhere at this point. There's body-swapping, immortality, and many other things designed to entertain you, but death is not one of those things.
