We are a bunch of soap-addicts, who need our daily dose of entertainment and drama. That's precisely why producers churn out daily soaps after daily soaps. From reincarnation series to sass-bahu sagas, we are hooked onto just about anything. Today we tell you why TV soaps are here to stay. Read on...

Masale-dar extended families:

If regular dose of drama wasn't enough, Indian soaps sprinkle a generous amount of masale-dar extended families into our daily viewing schedule. From conniving mothers-in-law to bitchy exes, there's a crazy character at every bend. TV sure has the liberty to experiment and enhance characters. They also have the luxury of knowing which characters are being lapped up by the audiences and which are not. So they work on popular characters and try to add 'tadka' to the storyline.

Celebrating functions lavishly:

For an average TV-viewer, it's a beautiful distraction when his favorite soaps feature lavish celebrations. From Garba Raas to Deepawali, every festival is weaved into the episodes seamlessly. It makes us feel closer to our families and relatives because of the way the functions are celebrated on the small screen. There's a certain connect to all that glitter and glitz. Don't you feel so?

Of leaps and bounds:

Unlike our western counterparts, we are not into 'Seasons'. But we do invest a lot of creativity (or the lack of it) in character 'leaps'. A 20- something will turn into a middle-aged man. A college goer will soon become a father of two kids, and so on. When everything else fails, we have plastic surgery and amnesia tracks to keep the TRPs ticking. It definitely keeps us glued to the screen because we want to know where the story is headed. How the characters are going to evolve and what would the impact of it all be. This curiosity is helping producers make big bucks. No, really!

TV stars are bigger than Bollywood stars for us:

Yes, this might sound strange. But this is the truth. Since small screen actors come to our living rooms day after day, we share a special bond with them. Which is not possible with B-Town stars. How many Bolly actors have been worshipped as Lord Shiva or asked to be brought back onscreen after their 'untimely' death? None. That's exactly why telly stars draw more attention and affection from the audiences.

The big screen may be ruling the box office with Rs 100-crore hits, but it's the telly land that's ruling our minds and lives. Do you guys agree? Let us know in the comments section below.
