Hi sweethearts! Thank you sooo much for all the likes and comments, it
is so motivating! I really love how people who read For the Love of a
Child and Tremble have checked this out, and new readers, too. :) Love
you all! Chapter two is below!
Chapter Two
Maan gazed down at the chained girl who was apparently named "Geet." She looked panic-stricken and was wincing from pain. He could see that her skin was turning red under the chains that bound her. The simple dress she wore was rather filthy and was torn at the sleeves.
"Your -- your Majesty, I don't believe that chains are necessary," said Adi. "I request that you please untie her."
"Unchain this trespasser?" one of the guards bellowed. "Absolutely not! She belongs to our kingdom now, we can do whatever we please."
"Remove the chains," Maan ordered, refusing to allow anyone else to make this decision. "And let me remind you that this is not *our* kingdom, it is *mine* and mine alone."
Chagrined, the guard bent down to untie Geet, who released a muffled sob and began to rub her raw wrists. "A pretty young thing, Sire," he observed. "She will prove useful, I am sure." The other guard laughed and nodded toward Maan's bed.
"Ahh, Your Majesty, my wife and I will see to it that she gets cleaned up and off to sleep," said Adi. His wife, Pinky, also lived in the king's palace.
"Please do," said Maan, rubbing his temples. He wished for nothing more than to return to his bed. "I will deal with this in the morning."
"Bow down to His Majesty," one of the guards instructed Geet.
She refused to budge.
"Do not ignore the king!" the other guard shouted.
Geet flinched slightly but still did not move.
Maan raised an eyebrow. He had met with and entertained royalty, leaders, and dignitaries, and not one had ever refused to acknowledge his presence. Who did this captured girl in her torn dress think she was?
Walking slowly toward her, Maan tilted Geet's chin up to face him. "Regardless of where you came from, you are now in my possession," he said lowly. "You have snuck into my palace from enemy land. Under these circumstances, I would advise you not to test my patience."
Geet's eyes burned bright behind her tears. "You may be holding me prisoner," she began, struggling to keep her voice even, "but you are not my king."
The guard gasped collectively and even Adi sucked in his breath.
Maan narrowed his eyes at this insolent young woman. "Get her out of my sight," he said through gritted teeth. "Before I discipline her myself this very instant." Adi immediately dashed forward and gently guided Geet out into the corridor, the guards trailing behind them.
