Chapter 2
Aisha couldnt reject after the sparkle which brighten up his face when he mentioned roshni.She nodded and both got down from the car and walked to the kulfi cart.
'kaka kaise ho?'arjun asked the vendor in a completely unknown informal tone,
'arre beta ?bohot dino baad aye?'the man asked back with a smile,
'haan bas kam mein..'arjun started but his voice gave up,
'kulfi khaoge?'the man asked sensing his pale face,
'haan..do kulfi dena'arjun replied.
All the while Aisha was watching him closely.The man speaking with the vendor was completely a different man whom she didnt know.The arrogance,the attitute,the coldness was missing and a warmth spread all across which made her smile.
'kya hua has kyu rahi ho?'Arjun asked forwarding the kulfi stick to her,
'kuch nehi,'she took the stick and waited for him to pay the man.She saw him give a few bucks
more to him but before the man could return he walked hurriedly to the car.Aisha followed him and they drove to a nearby lonely place.He parked the car at the end of the road and started licking his kulfi.Aisha couldnt keep her curiosity any more and asked him,
'Sir,apki patni...?' she stopped not probing more,
'she died three years back,'he replied clutching the kulfi stick tight in his palms.
'i am sorry sir,mujhe nehi..'she tried to make up but failed when Arjun started talking again,
'rathore ki baton ko bura maat manna aisha,wo khud kamzoor hai,aur dusro pe chillata reheta hai,'he suddenly told her out of the blue,surprising her completely,
Aisha kept looking at him completely perflexed at his sudden statement.Not too long but she had known Arjun for some time now.For the past eight months she is helping ETF with essential information from her undercover mission.She had met Arjun several times and spoke to him too.He always sounded proffesional without any small touch of emotions.After she joined ETF she knew this man was rude,arrogant with loads of attitute and a sarcastic style of leading his life.But she had never imagined in her worst nightmare,Arjun could speak to her in such an informal tone or in such informal topic.
Now when he was speaking she was confused what he actually meant by that.He could just be making fun of her as most men considered women couldnt be stronger than them or it could be genuine concern.The bringing in of his wife's topic created more confusion to her already disturbed mind.
She was lost in her thoughts when she felt someone touch her wrist and found arjun holding the kulfi bar and picking the melted kulfi from her wrist.
'kya soch rahi ho?'he asked her,to which she shook her head.
Arjun threw the kulfi outside and kept silent rubbing his thumb in a hankerchief.Aisha probed him further,
'ap kuch kehe rahe the sir?'she asked him,
Arjun signed heavy and looked at her.
'mujhe tumhari problem samajj ata hai.Meri bhi wahi problem hai,mein kisi ke under,team ke sath kam karna pasand nehi karta,per kuch aise kam hote hai jo apni marzi se nehi hote,dusro pe depend karna hi parta hai.Aur hamare pass ek bohot cooperative team hai,use them.Aur rathore bhi as a chief bura nehi hai.Kal tumhe kuch bhi ho sakta tha,agar hume pata hota to atleast hum jaldi pohuch jate,ya fir support kar sakte the,'
Aisha lowered her gaze understanding his insincts and they arent wrong.
'Aur haan Aisha sam pe gussa karke har bar apna mood aur apna kaam kuch bhi kharab maat karo.He is extremely proffesional and the best at his work.Aisha usne zindagi mein bohot kuch khoya hai,ya fir aise kahu ki kho jane se rok nehi paya hai,isi liye koi bhi uske pass ata hai to uski thori zyada chinta karta hai.Uske liye ye team uski responsiblilty hai aur wo kisi bhi member pe khatra ane nehi deta..is liye..dikha nehi sakta aur chillata reheta hai.Dammit...suna to hoga,'he completed with a smile,
Aisha smiled back.
'Lekin aj achanak ap..'aisha started,
'meine rathore ko kal dekha tha aisha,wo tumhare liye kuch zyada hi pareshan tha.waise har kisi ke liye hota hai,mere liye bhi,'arjun continued,
'haan rathore sir as a chief is perfect.'she exclaimed looked at his reaction,
'hmm,per tumhare liye wo concern ek chief ka nehi tha..'
'matlab?'she asked but arjun kept numb and she gave up.
Silence prevailed and after a few moments finally aisha decided to break it,
'sir ek baat puchu?if you dont mind,'she asked him,and he nodded,
'ap kehe rahe the rathore sir ne bohot khoya..kya ap unhe..?'she asked but didnt complete looking at his pale face,
Arjun didnt reply and looked outside.Everything came crushing down to him again and he jerked himself to get back.
'Raat ho gayi hai aisha,ghar chalte hai,'he said and started the engine.
Aisha understood and kept quite for the rest of the journey.

Next morning ETF was again busy with the case from the previous day.Almost by evening after a long series of investigation they finally recieved an important clue.The case involved some illegal ammunition trade and the ammunitions were kept in a safe godown of an NRI business man Mr Narendra Agarwal in the outskirts of goa.The shipping being done through sea it was easier to keep the consignments there.
After a long discussion it was decided that Aisha would meet Narendra in disguise in one of his parties and since narendra was well known for his weakness towards girls,aisha would fall for narendra and get the details about his godowns,deals and suppliers.
Chotu had to meet some informer regarding another difficult case and Arjun would have to go for his regular medical checkup the next day.Shree was required at the office for some official work.Thus since no one else was quite available sameer suggested to drive aisha to goa and it would help her to keep a backup in emergencies.

Sameer wasnt quite happy with the suggestion but since there wasnt any other female officer in his team he had to rely on Aisha.Everything arranged aisha and Sameer left for goa at the very night.
Aisha was feeling irritated to even sit with him in the same car but work required adjustment and arjun's words from the previous day kept ringing in his mind and she sat quitely.Sameer sensed her silence and was happy that she didnt keep on blabbering and boring him in the journey.But restlessness and continuous shifting in her seat was annoying him.He kept calm but when it happened continuously he stopped the car and the jerk made Aisha sit up.
She looked towards him and found him glaring at her.
'kya hua aisha?'he asked pretty calmly,
'kuch nehi sir,'she too replied in an equally calm tone,
'to itna uchal kyu rahi ho?shanti se baitho,'sameer again shouted at her,
Aisha opened her mouth to blast him but remembering he is her boss,she stopped that moment.She composed herself and turned towards the window looking outside.Sameer shook his head in utter disbelief and looked ahead.
They were travelling for an hour now when aisha's phone beeped and she looked at it attentively.A sweet smile broke on her lips and she typed back something in reply.Sameer was finding it quite fishy but didnt ask her.It embarrased him to ask his junior officer about her personal matters.But his thoughts didnt stop there coz the phone beeped again.Again Aisha smiled and replied back.This continued for sometime until curiosity took over him and he asked her finally,
'tum phone switched off karogi mein distract ho raha hu,'he glared at her,
'oops sorry sir,wo Arjun sir message kar rahe the is liye..,'she replied which almost killed him in shock,
'arjun?wo tumse kiya baat kar raha hai?case ke bare mein to mujhse baat kar sakta hai,'he shouted stopping the car in between the road.
'Sir,highway hai,apne gari rok diya?arjun sir sirf goodluck wish kar rahe the,'she shouted back,
'good luck?tum arjun rawte ki baat kar rahi ho?'he asked her bewildered,
'yes sir,kiyu?'she asked confused,
Sameer was surprised,angry,shocked,frustrated and what not.all the emotions kept intensifing the red shade on his face.He blinked his eyes and composed himself.He gave a brief look at aisha who was actually enjoying his confused face and started the car again.
They reached goa after a few hours.Aisha had yawning by the time they reached.They took their individual room keys and went inside.Aisha slept instantly but sameer was out of sleep as usual.
He had lost his sleep long back when Arjun's wife,Roshni,was killed to brutal death in front of them.
Roshni had come close to him after she got engaged and then married to Arjun,once best friend of sameer.She was the dutiful daughter-in-law,a loyal loving wife and a trustworthy friend. The relation he had shared with her was pure and honest friendship for which even Arjun felt jealous at times.
They shared happy times when they would team up against arjun's anger,sad times when arjun was brutally injured during an encounter and the doctors gave little hope to save him,also times when roshni fought with Arjun and left his house just to be found at sameer's doorstep in the next 20 minutes and also times which sameer and roshni spend alone times where roshni use to guide him and help him through his difficult times and decisions.
A nabbed ruthless criminal,escaped from the custody on the day Sameer was celebrating their anniversary party with arjun and Roshni at Arjun's place.It was almost impossible to imagine him taking shelter at Arjun's place and inturn kill Roshni and injuring both of them. Sameer had tried to protect her,even carry her in his arms to the hospital in the hope to save her but he failed.She died on the hospital bed.He knew it was fate and none of them were to be blamed,even the criminal died in a car crash later,nothing was left after that to be remorsed except their toughest loss.But still somewhere he felt lost just like Arjun was.
That incident left a mark on his bruised soul which kept burning at times. He distanced himself from anymore affections and closeness,even from Arjun,who too kept his distance from him.Though he physically kept away from feelings and encounters it did hurt him to even think of his close one getting hurt.His team was his second family and even the sense of danger lerking around any of them,even for the most hateful person,he would become restless to save them.
Something was similar with Aisha.Thats what he thought.But then why did he feel jealous when Arjun messaged her?
'ohh common it wasnt jealousy just curiosity,'he spoke aloud trying to convince himself.
But arjun wished her a 'good luck'?isnt it too much to belief?and why did she smile?did she feel something??????now why is my chest paining?damn ya..
He sat up on the bed with questions clouding his mind and his palm on his throbbing chest.After a long play he finally decided to confirm it from the devil himself.He called up arjun after dialing and cancelling his number for the fourth time.Arjun picked up the call in the second ring,
'haan rathore,'he seemed excited and as usual awake,
'tum soye nehi?'he asked unware to himself he was showing the concern,
There was silence from the other end and he realised why.He muttered an almost silent 'dammit' and started back,almost imagining the smirk which might be playing on arjun's lips by now.
'case ke bare mein kuch important tha?'he asked,cursing himself again,for the wrong question,
'nehi kyu pucha tumne?'arjun asked him,trying hard to control his chuckle,
'bas aisehi,wo tum aisha ko message kar rahe the to laga ki kuch important hoga,'sameer blurted out again and hit his forehead on the pillow,
Finally after years Arjun laughed out loud.Almost forgetting their proffesional differences.
'Saale,ab pata chala,roshni aur tum baith ke jab akele baat karte the,aur mujhe dhakke mar ke bahar nikal dete the,to mujhe kaisa lagta tha?'arjun spoke up in between his laughs,
'kya matlab hai iska arjun?roshni meri dost thi aur aisha to..'sam replied back jumping down from the bed,
'aisha to?'arjun asked instantly,
'meri colleague hai,meri team member,'sameer replied frustrated,
'ohh really?sirf colleague?fir to rasta clear,chalo mere liye acha hai,'arjun spoke up in a relaxed mode,
'kya?'sameer asked him confused,
'haan aisha mujhe bohot pasand hai,haan abhi to bas dosti ki shuruwat hai,per mujhe lag raha hai ki..'arjun started almost expecting the reply and holding his mouth to stop his laugh,
'bakwas band kar arjun,wo aisi larki nehi hai,aur mujhe laga tu rosh..'sameer stopped at the name disappointment visible in his tone and face,
Arjun hadnt missed that.He knew what sameer indicated and he was right.It was impossible for Arjun to love someone else,roshni was his soul mate and even death cant take away souls.Though death has made them apart,but roshni was inbuilt in him.He knew sameer missed roshni and thats the reason he never visited arjun's home after her death.He respected sameer for the dedication he had shown towards their friendship and will always do.
But today he needs to give him his part of happiness.Though unknown to sameer arjun had always guessed his special attraction towards the lady officer.Later his concerns,his affectionate gestures and his eyes,had spoke to him all.He knew him well to know the chief would never let his friend speak his heart to the lady who possesed it now.He had to nudge him but before that he needed to know aisha's heart too.
He tried her and yes her heart resonated in the same frequency just unknown to her.
Oh!!What an diligent couple they are.
He finally decided to play cupid for his friend and also to fulfil a wish made long back by his life Roshni.
The thought brought him back to the present and found sameer barking on the phone.He could almost imagine his virtual image glaring at him hard.Only if glares could take someone's life,these two would have died a thousand deaths.
He went back to the call,
'haan rathore,network problem sunai nehi de raha tha,'he joked?well he was confused himself,
'kya??rawte,dimag kharap ho gaya hai tumhara,ab phone rakho aur so jao,bye,'sameer angrily replied,
'haan thik hai,per sun,aisha se jaldi apni dil ki baat kehe dena,warna mein apni janam katha suna dunga and you know no one can reject me..'arjun replied and disconnected the call.
It was a relief for him to speak to his rathore.The next moment again he might go back to his shell but then one moment out of it wasnt that bad.He closed his eyes and felt 'her' presence.

But today he needs to give him his part of happiness.Though unknown to sameer arjun had always guessed his special attraction towards the lady officer.Later his concerns,his affectionate gestures and his eyes,had spoke to him all.He knew him well to know the chief would never let his friend speak his heart to the lady who possesed it now.He had to nudge him but before that he needed to know aisha's heart too.

The thought brought him back to the present and found sameer barking on the phone.He could almost imagine his virtual image glaring at him hard.Only if glares could take someone's life,these two would have died a thousand deaths.
He went back to the call,
'haan rathore,network problem sunai nehi de raha tha,'he joked?well he was confused himself,
'kya??rawte,dimag kharap ho gaya hai tumhara,ab phone rakho aur so jao,bye,'sameer angrily replied,
'haan thik hai,per sun,aisha se jaldi apni dil ki baat kehe dena,warna mein apni janam katha suna dunga and you know no one can reject me..'arjun replied and disconnected the call.
It was a relief for him to speak to his rathore.The next moment again he might go back to his shell but then one moment out of it wasnt that bad.He closed his eyes and felt 'her' presence.
'Roshni..'the name whispered out ,which always adorned his lips with a smile.
