Part 7

A cool breeze was playing with Siddhi's hair. She was enjoying the weather 

as well as the picturesque scene in front of her eyes. She could clearly see 

the horizon converging with the miniature buildings far away. Everything 

seemed so small from this high cliff. Suddenly she felt two hands curling around 

her waist. Her heartbeat started racing and she closed her eyes. A familiar 

voice whispered, "I love you Siddhi." Everything stopped for that moment. 

She turned around to see Kunal smiling at her. All of a sudden the lovely 

weather gave way to a heavy rainfall. Soon everything disappeared with the 

rain including Kunal. She stretched out her hand to grab him but all she could 

catch was air. Siddhi woke up with a jolt.

"That was a dream!" Siddhi thought dejectedly. She looked out through the 

window now wide awake. It was raining outside. The raindrops were crashing 

against the window pane loudly. Though she loved rain but today she hated it 

for awaking her from such a beautiful dream. She looked down at Kunal who 

was sleeping on the half berth under the window facing away from her. Siddhi

 was still thinking about the lovely dream she just had. "Will this dream ever 

turn into reality", she thought with a sigh. 

Siddhi recalled what had happened earlier that night. Kunal had been really 

angry on Thakrals...

Kunal: Abhi toh bas shuruat hui hai.. Iss baar main un sabko nahi chhodunga. 

Pichhli baar toh unhone bas mera career barbaad kiya tha, par iss baar toh 

tumhein, meri Siddhi ko chot pahunchayi. Ab main...

Kunal stopped suddenly realising what he had just said. Siddhi kept looking 

at him wide-eyed, thinking "Did he really say what I just heard!" Kunal covered 

up soon.

Kunal: Wo... wo mera matlab meri patni Siddhi... Waise bahut der jo gayi hai, 

tum so jaao. Main abhi aata hoon.

With this he left the room quickly leaving Siddhi confused.

Siddhi looked at Kunal who was sleeping. "Kunal I know somewhere you have 

feelings for me. Your actions always speak of what you can't. Lekin main tab 

tak intezaar karungi jab tak aap khud mujhse ye nahi kehte..." Siddhi closed 

her eyes trying to sleep again.

Kunal was not able to sleep as well. The loud sound of rainfall outside only 

increased his disturbance. All of a sudden, he fell off the half berth. 

Kunal: Aaa..

Siddhi (sat up shocked): Kya hua??

Kunal got up from the floor and sat on the half berth holding his back.

Kunal: Gir gaya...

Siddhi started laughing.

Kunal: Ye dekho, main gir gaya aur yeh yahan pae has rahi hai.. Huh!!

Siddhi: Sorry, main woh.. 

She tried to control her laughter but could not and continued laughing. Kunal

 looked at her angrily. She held her breath and finally managed to speak.

Siddhi: Aap gir kaise gaye? Chot toh nahi lagi?

Kunal: Nahi, main theek hoon.

Siddhi: Kunal, aap wahan par kyun so rahein hain? Aapka gadda kahan gaya?

Kunal: Woh, Seemane dekh lia tha ki cupboard mein gadda rakha hua hai. 

Kehne lagi ki usse gadde ki zarurat hai aur le gayi...

There was pause for several seconds while Kunal continued rubbing his back.

Siddhi (hesitantly) : Kunal..

Kunal: Haan..

Siddhi: Aap yahan bed par so jaaiye..

Kunal: Nahi, main yahan par so gaya toh tum kahan sougi?

Siddhi: Mera matlab aap apni side par so jaiye, main apni side par so jaaungi..

Kunal looked confused at Siddhi. They both felt awkward but Siddhi quickly 

changed her tone..

Siddhi: Dekhiye Kunal, maine toh aapko jo kehna tha keh diya. Aage aapki 

marzi. Mujhe bahut neend aa rahi hai. Goodnight.

She turned away from him and lied down on her pillow. 

Kuanl (thinking to himself) : Lo yeh toh so bhi gayi aur main ab bhi aise hi 

baitha hua hoon. Waise theek hi toh keh rahi hai. Bed par hi so jaata hoon. 

Woh apni side, aur main apni side. Waise bhi roz-roz chair aur half berth par 

soke meri gardan bhi akad gayi hai.

He slowly climbed up the bed and lied down on his side.

Siddhi: Kuanl, aaram se sona. Kahin phir se neeche mat gir jaana. Aapko upar 

sone ki aadat nahi hai na..(she smiled to herself)

Had it been some other day, Kuanl would have definitely relied back to her. 

But not today, after all Siddhi had taunted him after so many days. He had 

been missing this for such a long time. He simply closed his eyes to sleep 

with a slight smile on his lips.

In the morning when Kunal got up, he saw Siddhi's beautiful face just in front of his eyes. Siddhi had folded her hands under her head just like a kid. The golden rays of the morning sunlight accentuated her beauty. "She looks so innocent and beautiful while sleeping", Kunal mused. "Siddhi had to go through a lot because of me. Now I will make sure that not the tiniest problem comes her way."

In the days to follow, Kunal along with the other family member, took care 

of Siddhi, making sure she takes food and medicines on time. As a result, in 

just close to a fortnight, Siddhi was as fit as a fiddle. 

One evening Kunal returned home while Ishani and Anokhi had been fighting. 

As soon as they saw Kunal entering, Ishani held his hand and made him sit 

on the sofa.

Ishani: Chachu dekho na.. Anokhi cheating kar rahi hai..

Kunal : Accha, kya kia Anokhi ne? (Calls out) Seema, chai..

Anokhi : Nahi chachu maine kuchh nahi kiya. Cheating toh Ishani kar rahi hai...

The sisters continued their verbal fight. Kunal held their hands and made them sit on his lap.

Kunal: Hmmm... Chachu toh aap dono ke liye kuchh laaye the. Magar aap toh jhagda kar rahe ho toh...

Ishani & Anokhi: Kya Chachu?

Kunal: Nahi, tum dono apni fight continue karo, wo baad mein le lena.

Ishani & Anokhi: Nahi Chachu, fight over. Ab aap do na, aap jo laye ho.

He took out chocolates from his pocket and gave it to them.

Ishani & Anokhi: Thank you Chachu..

Meanwhile his tea arrived. He took a sip from the cup. And then a second one 

just to make sure if he was correct...
