Dibakar Banerjee's next 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshy' will be bringing back all the aspects of 1943 as the film is set in that era. Set in the backdrop of World War 2, it captures Calcutta of that time. The director has paid attention to every detail from the look, clothes and hairstyle to the sets and props.

Dibakar has ensured that every aspect of this film brings back the bygone era. The planes seen on the poster of the film are the exact replica of the real Japanese planes which were used during the bombing in 1943. The planes at that time looked very different from the way the planes look today. Japan had done an aerial bombing attack on Calcutta and this is the central theme of the film.

Tfs the video krackjack!

Wow, Dibu is such a good artist! I thought the sketch he made was pretty nice! And I could totally hear him speak about Byomkesh all day!

Video was really interesting , when Dibu was speaking about the difficulties while shooting and praising Sushant, I thought he would say that they were cautious of the dhoti falling off due to the leap hahaha! :P :D

Background music of the video was good!

Wow man! There's so much freshness around this movie.

This project is Dibakar's baby in true sense. He is as enthusiastic as a first timer. 😆

Sushant in one lucky guy. This must have been an amazing learning experience for him. YRF is leaving no stone unturned in promoting this movie. ðŸ˜†

@Nikita: Agree about the Dhoti part, Dibakar did mention the Dhoti though, that his atheletic hero was very good at taking the leap in that dhoti. ðŸ˜†

Bengal Noire: Illustrating Dibakar Bannerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

While trying to bring to life Calcutta during the second world war we turned to principally to a whole archive of work by stalwart illustrators of that age like Narayan Debnath, Pratul Chandra Bandyopadhyay, and Mayukh Choudhury who created original characters like Detective Koushik Roy & Aguntuk. Testament to our ongoing love affair with the thriller and suspense genre are the pages of Shuktara by Deb Sahitya Kutir and Indrajaal Comics, which helped us create the mystery and intrigue that the atmosphere required.

Uniquely different and path breaking for its time these pages set the stage for the lookbook we developed for our most exciting project this year Dibakar Bannerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy. Subrata Gangopadhyay's work on the Kakababu stories for Ananda Publishers and Samir Sarkar's Work for Desh are also part of the frame of reference we used for this project. Lastly we would also like to recognize Bikash Bhattarcharya's influence on the shadow play that we have tried to bring to the project.

Illustrated painstakingly by Bidhan Baidya from Grinning Tree, we hope that this unique never attempted before project will revive interest in the idea of the hand painted poster and draw attention to a lost treasure trove from Bengali literature.
