It was in January 2010 when ISHQIYA released. The film did reasonably well at the box office (Semi Hit), but it is remembered mostly for Vidya Balan. She impressed many with her acting in this film and then continued that streak by impressing the audience with NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, THE DIRTY PICTURE, and KAHAANI.
Now four years later comes DEDH ISHQIYA. Although Arshad Warsi and Nasserudin Shah (who were in the original) are in this film too, the lead actress Vidya Balan has been replaced by Madhuri Dixit.

The theatrical trailer of DEDH ISHQIYA has been liked by those who have seen it, but the problem is that the buzz for the film has been quite low. I think that a part of the reason for that is that out of all four leading actors in the film-Arshad Warsi, Naseerudin Shah, Madhurix Dixit, and Huma Qureshi- none of them are crowd-pulling stars. Madhuri Dixit was a huge star in the 90s, but she has hardly been seen in the last several years, and of course she has gotten older.

There is nothing really for the youth in this film, as the film carries a dark feel and some of the leading actors in the film are of older age. The youth would much rather watch this week's other release YAARIYAN which carries a youthful, entertaining feel.

But, the early reviews for DEDH ISHQIYA are very good, so I think that the small section of the audience that will watch the film will enjoy it. This may translate into more collections, and the low budget will also help to some extent.

My Box Office Predictions for DEDH ISHQIYA:
Opening Day: 3 crores net
Opening Weekend: 10+ crores net
Lifetime Collections: 20+ crores net
Overall Box Office Verdict:  Average

This is the difference between hollywood and bollywood. Bollywood movies only work if they are masala, action or love stories. Different types of films and genres are generally not accepted, there has to be a khan, kapoor or someone good looking/young for people to go out there and watch a movie. This is quite sad, some of the best movies simply do not work at the box office because there no conventional actor starring in it or because the cast are too old.

Dedh Ishqiya First Day Business

Saturday 11th January 2013 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Dedh Ishqiya grossed around 2.75-3 crore nett on day as per early estimates with business being bad across India with North being a bit better that too because of Delhi NCR while UP and Punjab not collecting well. The collections in Mumbai circuit were low. The figures from some circuits are as follows.

Delhi/Up - 68,00,000

East Punjab - 31,00,000

CP Berar - 13,00,000

CI - 12,00,000

Rajasthan - 22,00,000

Hey sorry i didnt reply earlier, just read your question now!

The budget of the film is said to be about 15 crores. If the collections double the budget (collects 30 crores at the box office) film would earn Hit tag. But, it its unknown how much the makers have recovered from other rights (satellite, music, etc) so if they have managed to recover a decent amount from other rights then even by collecting a little less than 30 crores the film has chance of earning clean Hit tag.

Looking at how the film has been faring so far though at the box office, it is unlikely the film will reach Hit status

From Box Office India:
Dedh Ishqiya had a good trend but it was a bit irrelevant as collections were too low at the beginning. The film grossed around 11.50 crore nett with business in Delhi/UP and East Punjab catching Yaariyan but it was lower elsewhere. The film could sustain over the weekdays but it is a costly film and the weekend is too low for it even cover costs.

So Dedh Ishqiya's opening weekend figure was 11.50 crores net.
