tuesday and story time
this story was told by my grandmom
Lord Shiva and Parvathy were discussing about people loosing faith in god, river Ganga appears in front of them and says that she is loosing the sanctity and no one considers her pure
Lord Shiva says there are people still who believe that taking a hold dip in Ganges will get rid of them all the sins they have done till that minute
Ganga was not convinced. Lord Shiva and Parvathi said they will prove it
they both took the form of a very aged brahmin and his wife, the old man could walk only with a stick holding on to his wife.
they went toKasi Vishwanathar temple , had dharshan there, people who thronged the temple for dharshan on that day, felt pity for the couple as there was no one ( children of theirs) to help them
they had dharshan and took rest near the shore of ganges, when the brahmin panted for breath, and slowly fainted
his wife was very much shocked to see his man breathing his last
people who passed by gave some water but no use
the old brahmin was dead
the wife was all tears crying loudly that they have no one and who will
do the last rites for him as they have no children
some men in the crowd said they are ready to do it
but the lady denied saying one who hasnt done any sin till the present minute can only do the last rituals for the brahmin
as he is a pious soul
many withdrew as they thought they have done sins and they are not free of it
time was running out and the brahmin had to be creamated before dusk
the lady was crying loud, saying if he would not be creamated that day then his sould would attain hell
hearing the loud cry a young man came to their rescue
he ssaid he would creamate the body of the brahmin
the wife said about teh condition that the man who hasnt done any sin can only do the creamation
the man thought for a minute and said he will be back in a few minutes
he rushed to the temple, applied the vibhuthi or the sacred ash, ran to the river ganga, and took holy dip for three times and came back to the place where everyone where gathered around the couple
the man said before taking dip in the river he was a sinful man but now he has got rid of all the sins he had done till the minute before he took the holy dip and now he is pure and can do the last rituals
Ganga who was watching this was very much pleased
Lord Shiva and Parvathi took their original forms
no one except the man could have the dharshan of Lord Shiva Parvathi and Ganga
they were very much pleased with his gesture and blessed him
Lord shiva told ganga that people still believe in the sanctity of the river and ganga was all smiles
