I think he is Parvati's Uncle, her parents deceased and he is her guardian.  Desdemona came from a wealthy family...so this could be a parallel.

Really love his outfit and look...I hope they maintain this type of attire for him in the show as well coz he is looking smokin hot!! (in my opinion) 😳
