Locals held hostage' as Vishal Bhardwaj shoots for Haider in Kashmir

Authint Mail |

As Bhardwaj's crew arrived at Dal Lake Saturday and hundreds of security personnel threw a cordon around the site, scores of shopkeepers and Dal dwellers alleged that their movement was restricted and they were kept jailed' inside their homes.

SRINAGAR " Security personnel guarding the crew of Bollywood director Vishal Bhardwaj who is camping in Indian administered Kashmir for shooting his latest movie Haider' allegedly forced the locals living near the site of shooting in Dal Lake to remain indoors.

As Bhardwaj's crew arrived at Dal Lake Saturday and hundreds of security personnel threw a cordon around the site, scores of shopkeepers and Dal dwellers alleged that their movement was restricted and they were kept jailed' inside their homes till the crew finished their shooting.

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor appeared in the interiors of Dal Lake and the crew was seen camping near Meena Bazar, Aabikarpora in Dal Lake.

"The police didn't allow us to open shops. They told us to wait for the departure of the crew. First we were told that the shooting would be over after an hour but we were made to wait for the whole day," one of the owners of a showroom, Muhammad Amin, told Srinagar based CNS news agency.

Shopkeepers and locals Saturday staged a protest against the highhandedness of forces. They alleged that people were made to suffer whenever the shooting of any Bollywood movie took place, "We did not earn even a penny for the whole day. They treated us like hostage. What would we feed our families now," a shopkeeper said.

"We are not against Bollywood but the way they take shelter of security personnel and even did not allow people to have a look while they shot the scenes is surprising and painful. We are not terrorists that our movement is being restricted anytime and anywhere," an elderly person told CNS.

Video-journalists also alleged that security personnel guarding the film crew did not permit them to shoot, "They checked my video tape thoroughly before allowing me to go," a video-journalist who didn't wish to be named fearing reprisal from forces said.

Renowned filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj has teamed up with the actor Shahid Kapoor for his latest directorial venture Haider' who is a story based in Kashmir. Kashmiri writer Basharat Peer has also contributed to the script of the movie which is scheduled to be released next year.

Shahid and VBK in same movie? thought she never wanted to act with him ever
and Vishal is the only one who I think adapts shakespeare fantastically. Never in my mind did I imagine the way omkara was transferred to UP from Cicily that it would be possible. And Maqbool to was a league of its own.
