Ah Paris! Last night, Sushmita Sen and her new beau, Manav Menon returned from the most romantic city in the world. There are all sorts of love in Paris: romantic love and professional love, passionate love and lascivious love. But Sushmita was in the city in the capacity of brand ambassador for Tag Heuer watches, and Manav was her official escort.
Grand dinner
It is learnt that Ravi Thakran, LVMH Watch & Jewellery, bigwig for Asia Pacific along with other top brass of the brand in France, had invited Shah Rukh Khan (along with wife Gauri) and Sush (along with Manav?) for a grand dinner. Both the stars endorse the same brand of watches.
No clicking business
This is the first time that Manav has been captured on film, ever since he started dating the Bengali actress. The duo, along with the actress's sister, Neelam arrived at Mumbai airport last night by Air France at 12.30 am. They all got in one car and zipped away. While Sushmita was comfortable in front of the camera, Manav was visibly uncomfortable. He tried to cover his hands with his face and finally dug out a cap from his bag and fixed it on his head.
Uncomfortable
When asked about his relationship with Sushmita, Manav called it an "extremely private matter and I feel uncomfortable talking about my personal life."
But Manav's brother, Anand, a director in Footcandles, spoke to us candidly about professional matters. How did Footcandles and Kiah come together? "The people at Kiah and Tantra (Sushmita's production company) were looking for a director for their television commercial and picked me to direct it. The TVC was produced by Tantra (not by Footcandles), but was directed by me."
Is it true that Footcandles is also getting into film production, in partnership with Sushmita's production company? "This is incorrect," Anand adds.
So, for now, Sushmita and her ad-filmmaker beau will not be mixing business and pleasure.
Who is Manav Menon?
Manav Menon is the brainchild behind Footcandles Films, set up in 1993. He quit as the head of the Films Department in JWT Chennai to set up Footcandles as a one-man show, dedicated to making commercials. His brother Anand Menon, fresh out of IIM, Calcutta joined him in 1996 and is now the Executive Producer and partner with Footcandles.
On an average, Footcandles produces 40 to 50 commercials a year and provides production services to numerous foreign crews out of its offices in Mumbai and Chennai.
Manav Menon has done over a hundred commercials, some of which include Aquafina Water, Diet Pepsi, Kingfisher Airlines, Hero Honda Deluxe, Nokia 7710 and Kiah diamond jewellery starring the actress, which he directed for Tantra Entertainment, Sushmita's production house.
