Ek Tha Tiger breaks first weekend record

alman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger is making fresh records with each passing day. Now the film which has garnered about Rs. 59 crore at the box office in 3 days holds the highest ever first weekend collections record in Indian history.

"Ek Tha Tiger made an approx 11.75 Crores on it's 1st Friday at

the box office. After opening to a humongous 32.92 Crores and grossing 14.55 Crores on it's 2nd Day, Ek Tha Tiger looks pretty steady with  59.22 Crores in it's pocket," reports Koimoi.com.

SalmanThe movie might have seen a steady fall in its last two days but one can surely account that to working days not being huge grossing days. However, Ek Tha Tiger has created a new record at the Indian Box Office. In its 1st weekend (i.e. 1st 3 days run) it has grossed about 59 crores which is the highest ever in Indian history. Post Monday, when the fasting season of Ramadan gets over, there is no saying what collections will the movie make," adds the website.

2nd day collections
"After shattering every record possible to shreds Ek Tha Tiger moved to its 2nd day. As per early estimates the movie would have made 16 crores on it's Day 2 at the Indian Box Office. Ek Tha Tiger had grossed a humongous 32.92 crores on its Day 1 and its total box office collections till date stands at 48.92 crores," reported Koimoi.com.

"The fall was quite expected as Thursday was a working day and not a holiday unlike Wednesday. However, the movie is expected to hit the chords again this weekend. There is no doubt that Ek Tha Tiger will prove to be an all time blockbuster at the box office if it sustains its momentum even for a weekend," added the website.

1st day fever
"#EkThaTiger biz on Wed is humungous, historic. But wait for Eid celebrations. It will create History *again*. Picture abhi baaki hain!" Taran Adarsh wrote.

Salman and Katrina in Ek Tha Tiger

"The 1st day box office collections of Ek Tha Tiger can be simply termed in one word as 'spectacular'. Something like this has never before happened in Bollywood. The movie made an approx. 30 crores (as per early estimates) on it's Day 1 at the Indian box office. Ek Tha Tiger did not just do good in a few circuits as there is really no circuit where the movie didn't break apart a set record," reports Koimoi.com.

"Ek Tha Tiger has smashed the opening day collections of Hrithik Roshan's Agneepath which had amassed a mammoth 23 crores. The movie also broke the much hyped Shahrukh Khan's Ra.One opening day record of 25 crores. Salman is out to break all the box office records ever set in India," adds the website

Salman's Ek Tha Tiger to have a sequel?

After taking a stupendous start at the box-office, Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger is all set for a sequel. The Salman-Katrina starrer has earned over Rs. 50 crore so far and is expected to break more records.

Buzz is that the production company has registered two titles Ek Hai Tiger and Ek

Rahega Tiger for the part 2 of the flick, reports Mid Day.

If all goes well, the tiger saga will continue and so its successful run at the box office.

A roaring success

When Katrina broke down in Salman's arms
Unable to bear media frenzy over the alleged vermillion on her forehead, Katrina Kaif broke down after the screening of Ek Tha Tiger at YRF studio. While the lady sobbed on Salman's shoulder, the paparazzi went click-click again, reports Mumbai Mirror. Katrina was recently spotted with a

spot of vermillion on her forehead and media went on speculating about her secret wedding. The Mumbai tabloid has revealed that it was nothing but a red tikka that her business manager's mother had applied on the actress' forehead, which was a little too close to the actress' parting.
SPOTTED: Katrina Kaif with the alleged vermillion

"It is a ritual Katrina has observed over the years," a source close to the actress told the tabloid.

"Why do they do this to me? Am I that kind of girl?!" she reportedly wailed. The actress made sure that the pics and videos are not circulated in the media.

Salman Khan reportedly consoled the actress. "He told her to just chill and said that she should learn from his life. After all he has had to face the media's fury more than many of the actors in the industry today," the source was quoted by the tabloid.

Meanwhile Ek Tha Tiger is setting new records. The film that broke all records and amassed over Rs. 30 crore on day 1, now stands at about Rs. 48.92 crore.

"#EkThaTiger Thu figure is 15 + for sure. Numbers still being compiled. This figure, I repeat, is the BIGGEST weekday number ever," tweeted trade expert Taran Adarsh.

TOP 10: Salman Khan's biggest hits

What happens when Barjatya boy Prem goes Dabangg and turns into Tiger? Well he becomes a hit machine, like our very own Salman Khan. With the success of Ek Tha Tiger, Salman has hit the jackpot for the fourth time in two years.

Salman's transformation from a quintessential lover

boy to the angry young man of today has taken place within a span of three years. It all started with Prabhu Deva's Wanted (2009). His dialogues (Ek baar jo maine commitment kar li to phi main apne aap ki bhi nahi sunta) as well as his stunt scenes in the film became a rage and a new Salman Khan was born who preferred smashing heads to romancing a girl.

The real turning point came with Abhinav Kashayp's Dabangg. Salman Khan's cop act opened to full houses and amassed big moolah at the box office. His success run continues with Ek Tha Tiger.

Here's listing the actor's 10 all-time hits that will be remembered for times to come:

MAINE PYAR KIYA (1989): It was the first solo film of Salman 'Prem' Khan and goes back to the era when the actor's declaration of undying love for Bhagyashree captured the imagination of millions of Bollywood lovers. It was 23 years back that Sallu signed his first Rajshree film with Sooraj Barjatya. The film went on to become the biggest hit of the year and the second biggest hit of the decade.

HUM AAPKE HAIN KOUN..! (1994):
Five years after the release of his debut movie, Salman Khan did the Prem act again in Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! The film starring Madhuri Dixit as the female lead not only strengthened the actor's lover boy image but also went on to become one of the biggest Bollywood hits ever. The film won 5 Filmfare Awards and also won the National Award for being the most popular film of the year.

JUDWAA (1997): Salman Khan portrayed double role for the first time in David Dhawan's Judwaa. The film paired him opposite Karisma Kapoor and Rambha. Salman plays the quiet Prem and naughty Raja. He portrayed both the roles with ease.

PYAAR KIYA TO DARNA KYA (1998): More than anything else, the film is remembered for Salman's shirtless act. The song Oh Oh Jaane Jaana became a rage. The film paired him opposite Kajol. The music was the USP of the film. It also starred Arbaaz Khan and Dharmendra.

BIWI NO.1 (1999):
Prem showed a different shade of himself in David Dhawan's Biwi No 1. From lover boy, he turned cheater boy. Well the actor plays a character who has an extra-marital affair. The title role is played by Karisma Kapoor and Sushmita Sen is the doosri aurat. The film was the biggest hit of 1999. It is reportedly the remake of 1995 Tamil film Sathi Leelavathi. The film also stars Anil Kapoor and Tabu.

HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM (1999): Playing the role of Sameer, Salman Khan displayed several shades of emotions in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film. The movie was the perfect mix of romance and tragedy. Salman made sure he did justice to both. The film that also starred Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgn, was critically acclaimed.

TERE NAAM (2003): Salman Khan delivered an exemplary performance in Tere Naam opposite Bhumika Chawla. He played the role of Rade Mohan, who falls in love with a college student Nirjara (Bhumika Chawla). After a head injury, he loses his mental balance and is admitted to an asylum. The film is an out-and-out tragedy movie that took Salman's acting prowess to another level.

WANTED (2009): Salman's dying Bollywood career got revived after the success of Wanted. The film gave him an image make-over as well as a fresh start in Bollywood. The film is about a young IPS officer, who goes undercover as a gangster to infiltrate the criminal underworld. Ayesha Takia starred opposite Salman in the film.

DABANGG (2010):
Dabangg changed everything for Salman. He became a sensation overnight. Salman played the role of Chulbul Pandey. The film marks the debut of Sonakshi as an actor, Arbaaz as a producer and Abhinav Kashyap as a director.  Made with a budget of 30 crore, Dabangg went on to gross 215 crore worldwide and the film was declared an all-time blockbuster in the second week of its release. It is the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010 and, as of 2011, the third highest–grossing Bollywood film of all time.

BODYGUARD (2011): Thanks to Salman Khan mania, the film became the highest opening day grosser as well as the biggest grosser ever for a single day. Ek Tha Tiger has broken the opening day record now. It is the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor.

Ek Tha Tiger: In no man's land

A still from Ek Tha Tiger

There's a lot to like in Ek Tha Tiger. But just not enough.

The good stuff first. This is a Salman Khan film that does not use its Bhai-film licence to go all out kamikaze crazy. The action, though spectacular, tries to bring in a tinge of realism. Like we see Bhai getting hurt and bruised quite early on. Ha! Like that can ever happen.

Kabir, he's Salman Khan. The closest thing Bollywood has ever got to recreating the Rajnikant persona. He can't get hurt. He has to be James Bond ka Baap. Bourne ka Bada Bhai. Ethan Hunt ka Hunter!

Not just that. Bhai gets fooled too. Fooled by a girl in a schoolgirl skirt! Now, now... that's blasphemy.

It's okay to be realistic if the idea is to make a gritty, arthouse film about the life of intelligence officers. But no, this is a Bhai film that takes its own time to become a full-fledged action masala film. By the time it becomes what it's best at, it's over.

The politics of it is rather amusing but you can't expect more from the star who has in recent years given us mind-numbing nonsense in the form of Bodyguard and Ready. But then, if you had a choice to kill Katrina Kaif or to run away with her, what would you do? That, right there, is Realism 101 for you. And they say Bhai films lack logic!

As refreshing to see a mainstream film not take a jingoistic stance and debunk all popular notions of Farz (duty) towards the nation, it's rather funny to see all this unfold in this film. It mostly works because of the pairing and the inside jokes. Like when Katrina tells him: "Now, you're old enough to be married."

You can see the twists coming from a mile but hey, you can't possibly expect Mission Impossible from a film industry that churns out the likes of Mission Istanbul.

Still, it's too much of a googly in a film that promises a genuine spy thriller when the head of intelligence smiles and tells his best man, Tiger: Let's find you a new enemy in a new country (Tumhare liye kisi naye mulk main naye dushman dhoondthe hai)… only to turn the tables on him and have the hero abandon everything he stood for halfway through the film.

This is Agent Vinod suddenly dumping its roots to go all out Dil Se. A curious mix which could have still worked if only it gave us more bang for our buck.

There are some four well-choreographed action sequences, probably the best we've seen in Bollywood. Yet this is a film that feels at least one set-piece short of a great action film. Worse, it feels like a spy thriller without a climax with its tendency to escape from more serious issues, the politics of hate between two countries especially. But it's good to see a film where RAW and ISI are equally good or bad.

Salman Khan is solid as ever. The epitome of cool, willing to take a dig at himself, and his asides to the camera are guaranteed to bring the house down (when he smiles thinking about his past encounters with women, assorted enemies and dogs). But it's Katwoman who steals the scenes away from him, especially the stunts, in the second half of the film. It's such a wonderful change to see a girl kick so much in a Bollywood action film.

This Tiger, however, is strictly the King of the Zoo. A film that never really gets a chance to show us what it can do in the wild.
