I put myself in poor quivering, shaking, 'dhak-dhaking', Khushi's place and came up with her version of an Ode to Arnav.

Anticipation : An "un-Khushi" feeling

 

The breezy gusts

That announced your presence

Are passe now

I've transcended irrelevance.

 

My heart goes dhak dhak

At the thought of you even

When you're near me

It's game over, no ad hominem.           

 

I don't need no bells to ring

I've got my drummin' heart

And you're so smart, so very sharp

One touch to flare the spark!

 

And every time our eyes meet

I feel my stomach drop

My breath hitches, my heart soars

I feel it go flip-flop.

 

When you look at me like that

You know, like that

I feel my cheeks a-burnin'

And all I wanna do is scat!

 

I wear my hair down now

Not because you like it that way

But I'm scared you'll unpin it

You make the innocuous seem risque.         

 

You say you don't dance

And then you dance with me

What you've really done is ensure

I never dance with anyone else but thee.

 

For nobody else can make me feel

The way I do in your arms

It's unfair for one person

To disarm with so much charm.

 

I can never wear a green sari again

Nor a red one, not ever.

No, don't you say a word

Do nothing. Don't be clever.

 

The jalebis aren't helping

Even Devi Maiyya can't assist

Schrodinger's cat had it easier

It lived or died, I exist.

 

This weird, throbbing existence

Is very uncomfortable, you know?

To be constantly aware and on edge

It's like living under mistletoe.

 

I don't quite know when you'll kiss me

I only know that you will

I see it in your gleaming eyes

You're closing in for the kill.

 

I know you're having great fun

Enjoying the chase, so to speak

Spare a thought for my poor heart

Let go of that conceit.

 

Why don't you just say it?

Just get it out of the way

Say you love me baby!

And we'll make babies, don't delay!
