On-screen couples who don't get along off screen
Neha Maheshwri, TNN | Mar 21, 2013, 12.00 AM IST

On-screen couples who don't get along off screen
Karan Mehra and Hina Khan

Their chemistry on screen may be very good, but in real life, it's a different picture altogether. Believe it or not, many on-screen pairs love to hate each other. Here are a few examples:

Mohit Raina - Sonarika Bhadoria
Mohit aka Mahadev in Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev, shared a great chemistry, on and off screen with Sati, played by Mouni Roy. But with Parvati, played by Sonarika, he prefers aloofness. An introvert, Mohit keeps to himself on the set. Sonarika, on the other hand, is yet to come to terms with the fact that the show revolves around the male lead, with him hogging all the media attention. Both have no bonding off-screen.

Rati Pandey - Sumit Vats
To put it bluntly, Rati and Sumit (who play Indira and Rishi in Hitler Didi) cannot stand each other. If sources are to be believed, Rati finds Sumit irritating. She also feels that she is a more popular actor and the show is running on her shoulders. While Rati likes to call the shots on the set, Sumit prefers to stay quiet about their equation off screen and pretends all is well.

Hina Khan - Karan Mehra
They have been playing Akshara and Naitik, a married couple madly in love with each other inYeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai for four years. While the two share a crackling chemistry on screen, their equation is exactly the opposite once the camera stops rolling. They don't even talk to each other unless it's absolutely necessary. Both of them are reserved by nature and that doesn't help either.

Ankita Sharma - Navi Bhangu
Navi aka Agam of Amrit Manthan hardly interacts with his co-stars. In fact, most of his colleagues find him haughty. His female lead Ankita aka Nimrit, is no exception. Buzz is that she even refuses to talk to him. Navi, on his, part, can't care less.

My mother thinks I am overrated...

India's most iconic TV star Mohit Raina (Lord Shiva) opens up

Subhash K Jha

Mohit Raina's ongoing performance as Lord Shiva In Devon Ke Dev Mahadev has the nation bowing to this soft-spoken Kashmiri. He is overwhelmed by the reverence and adulation. A self-confessed Mama's Boy, he lives in Mumbai with his mother. Cutting down talk of being involved with his co-star Mouni Roy and of a marriage proposal from Priyanka Chopra, Mohit says, "There have been linkups, but all untrue. Seriously, there's no time. All I do is shoot and go to the gym."

His father passed away two years ago, and his mother who lives with me is inundated with requests of, 'Bhagwan ke darshan kara do.' Says the actor, "But my mother doesn't take me seriously. She doesn't think I am a good actor. She thinks I am overrated, doing just-about okay."

Being Shiva
A screen-god who is the nation's sex symbol sure sounds contradictory. Laughs Mohit, "The kind of attention I get is way beyond my comprehension. I know they're reacting to Shiva Bhagwan and not to Mohit Raina. But still the attention is disconcerting. Whenever I meet people they feel they know me. There is an accessibility to Lord Shiva. He's a people's God. People love me. I couldn't ask for more. They are looking at me in a way they've never looked at screen gods before. I am happy and grateful for that"

Darshan de do
Fans and admirers from all over the country want a darshan of this tele Shiva. But Mohit who shoots for the serial round-the-clock has a a one-point contact address with the outside world. "I am not an outgoing person. I don't party or socialise. Not only because I can't (considering my image). But because I don't want to. This is a lifetime opportunity for me. Even if I was tempted to socialise and womanise, I would have given up the thought for this role. But I am not that kind of person. I have to go to the gym to be able to expose Shiva bhagwan's torso in every episode. People have gotten to know I visit the gym every day. They comeand stand outside my gym. I have seven-year old girls, 57-year old aunties and 85-year old grandparents desirous of a darshan."

No complains
For Maha Shivratri this year, Mohit couldn't perform Shiva Puja at home. "My mother was upset. I had requested for a holiday and my producers laughed their heads off. I made sure I performed Shiv puja after I returned home from shooting. But I can't complain. I love what I am doing. "

Destress mantra
As a Shiva devotee, Mohit found it easy to slip into character. "Initially, I wasn't sure if I could play God. But my dad was a Shiv bhakt and that helped me to get into character. In Kashmir, my father would take me to the Amarnath temple." Switching off everyday after shooting wasn't easy. The small screen God then figured out a formula, "I do a 15-minute meditation and breathing exercise every day after shooting. That helps me to come out of character."

The modelling days
Going back to the beginning of his journey Mohit says, "I am from Jammu and Kashmir. I always wanted to be part of Mumbai's entertainment world. I participated in Grasim's Mr India contest in 2006. That's how it all started for me. I was modeling for a while but soon realised it was not my cup of tea. I wanted to try my hand at acting. I started with some serials like Chehra that didn't do well. I also did a film Don Muthu Swamy with Mithun Chakraborty. I tried my luck here and there. Finally I got Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. I was destined to play the part. And now people know who Mohit Raina is, albeit as Lord Shiva. Some supreme power wanted me to play Shiva. And I am doing what He wanted me to."

Hope floats
After 17 hours of work Mohit heads home and that's his life, "No regrets, I get so much happiness when people tell me their lives have changed because of the serial." About desisting from love involvements Mohit quips, "A real-life Parvati would demand time and attention. I can't give her that, I am sure in the future I will have a Parvati, and Ganesh and Kartik (the kids) will follow." Sometimes his 'devotees' shock him, "It's not easy being God. But it's exhilarating. I tell people not to touch my feet because I am not God. It started with a guy who travelled all the way from Himachal. He insisted I bless him. Since then I wonder who am I to deprive people of hope?"

Mohit Raina seen as Lord Shiva in the mythological TV series "Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev" on Life OK has clarified that he is not dating anyone. A self-confessed Mama's Boy, the actor is shocked by all the reverence and adulation.

Cutting down talk of being involved with his co-star Mouni Roy and of a marriage proposal from Priyanka Chopra, Mohit said he is single.

"There is no real-life Parvati in my life. There has been talk of my linkups. But seriously, there is no time. All I do is shoot and go to the gym. My mother lives with me after my father passed away two years ago," said Mohit, a Kashmiri.

About desisting from love involvements Mohit quipped, "A real-life Parvati would demand time and attention. I can't give her time but I am sure in the future I will have a Parvati in my life. And the Ganesh and Kartik (the kids) will follow. It's not easy being god. But it's exhilarating."

He said his mother is "inundated with requests to meet me. 'Bhagwan ke darshan kara do,' they tell her. But my mother doesn't take me seriously... She thinks I am over-rated, doing just about okay."

A screen-god, who is the nation's sex symbol, sure sounds contradictory.

"It surely is. Well, I guess people are looking at me in a way they've never looked at screen gods before... The kind of attention I get is way beyond my comprehension. I know they're reacting to Shankar Bhagwan and not to Mohit Raina. But still the attention is disconcerting...People love me. I couldn't ask for more."

Mohit, who shoots for the serial round the clock, is not not a "very outgoing person".

"I don't party or socialise. Not only because I can't (considering my image) but because I don't want to. This is a lifetime opportunity for me. Even if I was tempted to socialize and womanize, I would have given up the thought for this role. But I am not that kind of person."

However, he does go to the gym "to be able to expose Shiva Bhagwan's torso in every episode".

"People have gotten to know I visit the gym every day. They are there to meet me every day. And there's no particular age... I have seven-year old girls, 57-year old aunties and 85-year old grandparents desirous of a darshan.

"The other day 70-plus ladies from Nagpur showed up at the gym with roses. They didn't know what else to gift me. I was touched."

For Maha Shivratri this year, Mohit couldn't perform puja at home.

"My mother was very upset... I had requested for a holiday on Shivratri. My producers laughed their heads off...I made sure I performed puja after I returned home from shooting. But I can't complain. I love what I am doing. I am quite happy being Mahadev. But Mahadev is completely separate from Mohit Raina."

Mohit has a formula to get out of the character every day after shooting.

"Initially I didn't know how to switch on and off. In due course, I've discovered a 15-minute meditation and breathing exercise that I do every day after shooting. That helps me to come out of character."

Going back to the beginning of his journey, Mohit says, "I am from Jammu and Kashmir. I always wanted to be part of Mumbai's entertainment world.

"I participated in Grasim's Mr India contest in 2006. That's how it all started for me. I came to Mumbai and I was modelling for a while. Soon I realised modelling was not my cup of tea. I wanted to try my hand at acting. I started with some serials like 'Chehra' that didn't do well.

"I also did a film 'Don Muthu Swamy' with Mithun Chakraborty... Finally, I got 'Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev'. I was destined to play Lord Shiva. And now people know who Mohit Raina is, albeit as Lord Shiva."

As a Shiva devotee, Mohit found it easy to slip into character. "The fact that my father was a Shiv devotee helped me to get into character. We are Kashmiri Pandits. When we were in Kashmir my father would take me to the Amarnath temple.

"People will remember me as Mahadev for as long as possible. I am giving my life to the show," he said.

After 17 hours of work when Mohit heads home, he can't have his mother's cooking.

"Unfortunately I can't have my mother's rich ghee-laden food. Because Shiva has to have a great body non-stop... If my presence in a 22-minute serial can change lives, why would I miss the small pleasures of life?"

Meet the screen-god-turned-India's sex symbol: There is no real Parvati in my Life

For rhe first time... India's most iconic star, Lord Shiva, Mohit Raina opens up with Subhash K Jha

Admittedy, at the moment there is no bigger star in the country than Mohit Suri whose ongoing performance as Lord Shiva In Devon Ke Dev Mahadev has the entire nation bowing to this softpoken bewildered Kashmiri.

Mohit Raina seems shell-shocked by the reverence and adulation. A self-confessed Mama's Boy, Mohit lives in Mumbai with his mother. Cutting down talk of being involved with his co-star Mouni Roy and of a marriage proposal from Priyanka Chopra, Mohit says he is single.

'There is no real-life Parvati in my life. There has been talk of my linkups. But seriously, there is no time. All I do is shoot and go to the gym.

My mother lives with me after my father passed away two years ago. She is inundated with requests to meet me. 'Bhagwan Ke Darshan kara do, ' they tell her. But my mother doesn't take me seriously. She doesn't think I am a good actor. She thinks I am over-rated, doing just-about okay. '

A screen-god who is the nation's sex symbol sure sounds contradictory.

Laughs Mohit, 'It surely is. Well, I guess people people are looking at me in a way they've never looked at screen gods before. I am happy and grateful for that. The kind of attention I get is way beyond my comprehension. I know they're reacting to Shiva Bhagwan and not to Mohit Raina.

But still the attention is disconcerting. I guess it's because every Hindu household has a picture-calendar of Shiva, Parvati and Ganesh. The serial brings alive the calendar-image. That's the USP of the serial. Whenever I meet people they feel they know me. There is an accessibility to Lord Shiva. He's a people's God. People love me. I couldn't ask for more. '

Fans and admirers from all over the country want a darshan of this home-medium's Shiva. But Mohit who shoots for the serial round the clock has a a one-point contact address with the outside world.

'To be very honest I am not a very outgoing person. I don't party or socialize. Not only because I can't (considering my image). But because I don't want to. This is a lifetime opportunity for me.

Even if I was tempted to socialize and womanize I would have given up the thought for this role. But I am not that kind of people. But I have to go to the gym to ge able to expose Shiva Bhagwan's torso in every episode.

People have gotten to know I visit the gym every day. They are there to meet me every day. And there's no particular age group of fans seeking to meet me. I have 7-year old girls, 57-year old aunties and 85-year old grandparents desirous of a darshan.

The other day 70-plus ladies from Nagpur showed up at the gym with roses. They didn't know what else to gift me. I was touched. '

For Maha Shivratri this year, Mohit couldn't perform Shiva Puja at home. 'My mother was very upset. She couldn't understand that I had to play Shiva even on Shivratri. I had requested for a holiday on Shivratri. My producers laughed their heads off. That's when I realized I am really seen as some kind of a God.

On Shivratri they prayed to me rather than to the Shiv Idols. That zapped me. I made sure I performed Shiv Puja after I returned home shooting. But I can't complain. I love what I am doing. I am quite happy being Mahadev. But Mahadev is completely separate from Mohit Raina. '

Mohit has a formula to get out of character every day after shooting. 'Initially I didn't know how to switch on and off. In due course I've discovered a 15-minute meditation and breathing exercise that I do every day after shooting. That helps me to come out of character. '

Going back to the beginning of his journey Mohit says, 'I am from Jammu & Kashmir. I always wanted to be part of Mumbai's enterainment world. I participated in Grasim's Mr India contest in 2006. That's how it all started for me. I came to Mumbai and I was modeling for a while.

As a Shiva devotee, Mohit found it easy to slip into character. 'Initially I wasn't sure if I could play God. But the makers saw their Mahadev in me. That fact that my father was a Shiv Bhakt helped me to get into character. We are Kashmiri Pundits.

When we were in Kashmir my father would take me to the Amarnath temple. People will remember me as Mahadev for as long as possible. I am giving my life to the show. We'll continue telling the story of Lord Shiva till the time when the story keeps going and the love keeps flowing.

Some supreme power wanted me to play Shiva. And I am doing what HE wanted me to. I will continue playing Shiva until the Supreme Power wants me to. At the moment I do nothing else. '

After 17 hours of work when Mohit heads home he can't have his mother's cooking.

'Unfortunately I can't have my mother's rich ghee-laden food. Because Shiva has to have a great body non-stop. Being a foodie, it's hard. But I can eat all my mother's food when I am no longer playing Mahadev.

At the moment I get so much happiness when people tell me their lives have changed because of the serial. People listen carefully to what I say as Mahadev. If my presence in a 22-minute serial can change lives why would I miss the small pleasures of life?'

About desisting from love involvements Mohit quips, 'A real-life Parvati would demand time and attention. I can't give her time, I am sure in the future I will have a Parvati in my life. And the Ganesh and Kartik (the kids) will follow. It's not easy being God. But it's exhilarating.

I tell people not to touch my feet because I am not God. It started with a guy who travelled all the way from Himachal. He insisted I bless him. Since then I realized who am I to deprive people of hope?'

Amrapali replaces two actresses on two different shows
Neha Maheshwri, TNN | Mar 30, 2013, 12.00 AM IST

Amrapali replaces two actresses on two different shows
Amrapali Gupta

Amrapali Gupta has returned to TV four months after marrying her boyfriend Yash Sinha, her popularity with producers undiminished. No wonder then, she was the first choice when the makers of Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev and Qubool Hai were looking for replacements for actresses they wanted replaced.

Amrapali has replaced Parvati Sehgal in Mahadev and Nisha Nagpal in Qubool HaiProducer Nikhil Sinha revealed that both Parvati and Amrapali had auditioned for the role and that look tests were done and "based on the auditions, we found Amrapali more suitable for the character."

However, a source from Mahadev insists, "The production house found Parvati 'too fat' to play Matsyakanya (a mermaid) - Jalandhar's mother. The actress has to look glamourous and beautiful. She was replaced overnight because she looked too fat for the part."

A source from Qubool Hai says that Nisha's recent accident caused the vacancy on the show. "She needs to take rest and can't shoot for long hours. Also, according to the feedback, she doesn't look convincing enough as antagonist Tanveer. We approached Amrapali and she fit the bill perfectly." said our source.

Says Amrapali, "Yes, I played Matsyakanya in the show finally but I am not aware of the reason behind the replacement. I have already shot for my cameo in Mahadev but they might need me for a few days more. Also, I have replaced the antagonist in Qubool Hai. I don't know who was playing the part before."
