Top Bollywood Actors in Television

It's been more than a decade since the big migration started. No, we're not talking about herds of wild animals moving across the African continent. We're talking about movie stars warming up the small screen and tasting some champagne success. Here are the big names that have made Indian television a happening place.

Princely ambitions: Shah Rukh Khan. TV debut: Fauji (1988) Shows: Kaun Banega Crorepati Tritiya,Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain? and Zor Ka Jhatka
Full marks to King Khan for being a resilient TV star. Despite lukewarm responses and dwindling TRPs, SRK maintained grace and charisma on his reality shows. His real calling in television came when Amitabh Bachchan stepped down from the quiz master's perch in 2007. The initial TRPs of SRK's KBC were promising but interest slowly started dipping. SRK then came up with a new show Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain? Again, initial TRPs of the show were promising but the show never managed to go past its first season. His return to hosting reality TV with Zor Ka Jhatka but did not

Star power: Salman Khan. TV debut: Dus Ka Dum (2008) Shows: Dus Ka Dum and Bigg Boss Season 4
It's Salman Khan's star power that makes his films blockbusters and it seems the same rules apply to TV too. No matter how involved he is in the show he hosts, no matter what controversy crops up, one thing's for sure. If Salman is hosting a reality TV show, it's bound to garner high TRPs. His debut on the innovative game show Dus Ka Dum was a rage but the TRPs did dip near the finale. Salman returned to the small screen when he took over anchoring duties for Bigg Boss from Amitabh Bachchan in 2010. And just like that, the show became the most watched TV programme in India.

Clockwork of Indian TV: Amitabh Bachchan TV Debut: Kaun Banega Crorepati (2000)
Shows: Kaun Banega CrorepatiKaun Banega Crorepati DvitiyaBigg Boss Season 3KBC  season 4and 5
Look at the previous decade in Indian television and Amitabh Bachchan seems to have the highest presence. A large part of it is due to the Kaun Banega Crorepati game show that breathed new life into Bachchan's popularity way back in 2000. Since then, every show he has graced has turned out to be a runaway hit. Even his stint on Bigg Boss catapulted the TRPs of the show to new heights. Advertisements and reality TV owe Bachchan a big one.

TV gets pretty: Preity Zinta TV debut: Guinness Book of World Records: Ab India Todega (2011) Shows: Guinness Book of World Records: Ab India Todega and The Preity Zinta Show
Preity Zinta is an entrepreneur par excellence and a fine actress too. But her big screen charm and strong business skills haven't paid off on the small screen. Taking time off from managing her IPL team, Preity tried her hand at hosting the Guinness Book of World Records show on TV. The TRP ratings were at best modest and the popularity didn't quite kick in. Talks are now on for Preity's own talk show to be produced by SRK's Red Chillies.

Kicks to cook: Akshay Kumar TV debut: Khatron Ke Khiladi (2008)
Shows: Khatron Ke KhiladiKhatron Ke Khiladi Season 2Master Chef India and KKK Season 4
Akshay Kumar managed to cash in on both for his passions- cooking and martial arts for his television career. He made a successful host on two seasons of Khatron Ke Khiladi (KKK).  Reportedly, the TRPs of both seasons were fantastic. He did make way for Priyanka Chopra on KKK's third season but the dismal TRPs forced him back on the just concluded season. Unfortunately, Akshay's other passion, cooking, didn't pay off. His Master Chef India show failed to grab eye balls.
Success rate: 7

Dancing king: Hrithik Roshan TV debut: Just Dance (2011) Shows: Just Dance
Hrithik Roshan is the latest entrant into the world of movie stars making an impact on television. But his first steps aren't baby steps, they're giant strides. A good six months before his reality dance showJust Dance hit TV sets, reports about Hrithik signing on for a sum of Rs 2 crore per episode were already thick in the news. Since then, the show's opened to moderate success and is well on its way to completing a successful season. There's no reason why TV viewers won't get more of Hrithik and his million dollar moves in the future.
Success rating: 6

Sweet chin music: Priyanka Chopra TV debut: Khatron Ke Khiladi (2010) Shows: Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 3
In 2010, Priyanka Chopra replaced Akshay Kumar as the host of Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 3. But destiny wasn't as kind to Priyanka's TV career. The show was initially planned with Indian cricketers but eventually featured Indian entertainment celebrities. The show opened with a TRP of 5.5 in September but couldn't sustain the momentum till the end. PC was replaced by original host Akshay Kumar in the subsequent season of KKK.

Speaking of success: Simi Garewal TV debut: Rendezvous with Simi Garewal (1999) Shows:Rendezvous with Simi GarewalSay Shava Shava and Simi Selects India's Most  Desirable
Simi Garewal made quite the fashion statement when she was christened the lady in white, following the success of her celebrity talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. To date, this remains one of the longest running and successful talk shows on Indian TV. Simi's slightly personal touches in her talks with the celebrities were highly appreciated. Cashing in on her success on TV, Simi then judged a reality show called Say Shava Shava and can now be seen interviewing young actors on Simi Selects India's Most Desirable.
Success rating: 8

Groovy grandmaster: Mithun Chakraborty TV debut: Dance India Dance (2010) Shows: Dance India DanceDID: Chote Ustaad and DID: Doubles
In his heydays, Mithun Chakraborty garnered many a follower thanks to his James Bondesque  role ofGunmaster G9 in Suraksha. In his TV debut, Mithun is referred to as Grandmaster because it's a throwback to his character and also because he's known to be the original dancing star. DID has managed three successful years with solid TRPs and his charm adds to the programme's popularity.
Success rating: 7

Macho to mellow: Dharmendra TV debut: India's Got Talent (2011) Shows: India's Got Talent
Dharmendra was a Filmfare talent hunt winner and is now anchoring a show to find Indian talent. The ageless star doesn't mind bursting into tears on national television and his sentimental charm seems to have won the war of TRPs for him.
Success rating: 6

High class aromas: Karan Johar TV debut: Koffee With Karan (2004) Shows: Koffee With Karan Season 12 and and Lift Kara De
As he stirs the coffee in his cup, Karan Johar manages to whip up high drama, emotion and confessions out of every big league entertainment star. Karan's talk show pioneered and redefined celebrity talk shows on Indian television. Koffee With Karan brought a new spunk and pace to Indian TV and its success continues to date. Karan also tried his hand at the experimental and charity oriented Lift Kara De, which also managed respectable TV ratings. Karan's class clearly reigns supreme on Indian TV.
Success rating: 10

Going, going gone: Govinda TV debut: Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke (2001) Shows: Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke
Amitabh Bachchan and KBC were a monopoly on Indian reality TV back in 2000 and it was up to Govinda to change that. Govinda's Jeeto Chappar Phaad Ke was touted as competition for KBC but it never scaled the same heights as Bachchan's game show.
Success rating: 3

The bare truth: Rajeev Khandelwal TV debut: Kahiin To Hoga (2003) Shows: Sach Ka Saamna andDeal Ya No Deal Season 3

Rajeev Khandelwal was a household name way before he became a movie star. He was the male lead inKahiin To Hoga, the programme that also launched Aamna Sharif's career. Step two for Rajeev was anchoring the popular game show Deal Ya No Deal, which was earlier hosted by R Madhavan and Mandira Bedi on separate occasions. DYND didn't stir up a storm but in 2009 Rajeev returned to TV with a radical show called Sach Ka Saamna and topped all TRP charts. anticipation.

But then Rajeev whenever he has associated with anything New...Its always worked...

Aamir was UTV Spotboy's first film...And got soo much acclaim and returns...Hope the channel to works big time...

There is another watchable show in the channel...*fingers crossed* I want the show on top 10 in the next trp ratings which will be out next week...
