MG/Gurti OS: Where the rainbow ends

Posted: 12 years ago

This story is dedicated to Gurti...They gave us so much love and laughter with their unbending dedication to portray Maan and Geet, our Maaneet.

Where the rainbow ends

 PART: 1

All good things come to an end.

Better to end before it goes downhill.

Life goes on.

These phrases moved around Geet's mind as she thought of the journey that was Drashti Hui Sabse Parayi. But none were capable of consoling her.

No it wasn't a journey, neither was it a chapter in her story. That would make it sound as a passing issue, something to move on from. Geet knew that she could never forget Drashti, because the show had become a part of her life and had changed her.

A small smile lit up her face as she thought about the start of the show. She had been so scared of not being able to play a character that was in such contrast to her own personality. It had taken time but slowly she started to relate to Drashti, a girl who fought against the world to attain things that should have been her right.

But today she understood Drashti better than anyone else. The character she had played nearly every day for nearly 2 years had become another facet to her own self.

Sometimes she wondered if other actresses felt the same way about their shows as she did about hers. She felt that they didn't because Geet was something unique. Everyone involved had given their hundred per cent and at times more than should have been possible. The show had gone past what should have possible, with a popularity that still boggled her mind.

And she was at the centre. She knew that the director, producers, camera men and all the crew had more of a hand in the show than she did, yet she was the face of the show. The show was after all named Drashti and it revolved around her.

Fans didn't get to see or really connect as much with the crew because of their limitations but they would look at her as the central point and connection.

Yes no one can understand this possessive feeling, Geet thought sadly. The creators would write more stories, but Drashti would seize to be. It was as if a part of her would hide within her, unable to express itself.

She looked across the room and met the eyes of someone else.

No, I am not the only one who feels this way.

If Drashti was the heart of the show, Gurmeet would be the soul and the whole basis of story was their love. Geet knew that Maan was just as attached to the character Gurmeet as she was to Drashti.

He would understand better than anyone else how she would be feeling about the show ending.

It was that very reason that she sent a small teary smile his way and saw the same sheen of tears glisten in his eyes.

-----------------------------

Maan stared around the room, looking at the hustle happening. People were running around, the camera man was screaming about the lights and some of the old crew had also come back to see the last shot.

Last shot, the very idea sent a shiver down his back.

They say that every dream has to culminate into either reality or vanish into the abyss of regrets. Yet Maan didn't know how to classify his dream; yes he was successful beyond anything he had imagined but with the show ending it felt as if he had been dreaming the wrong destination.

The popularity and recognition was exhilarating but nothing compared to the sheer satisfaction in playing such a role. It had been a difficult task to play Gurmeet, the arrogant hero with hidden depths. It was not like him to glare, shout and pull at people yet he had let himself immerse in the role.

He loved playing the role, something so alien from his own character. Everyday he would get to play a man who seemed to have no lack of confidence and had the whole world at his fingertips. The sheer power of the character was quite heady and Gurmeet loved to own that power even if it was in fiction.

However in the end it wasn't his character that was defining his role but the sheer magnetic pull between Drashti and Gurmeet.

There was almost a bubble around the two, making it impossible for anyone to come between them. A love that was so strong that no obstacle was capable of keeping them apart.

It was the sort of love one would hesitate to even dream about because it was almost too beautiful to imagine. Not bound by the confines of reality, their love defied all conventions. A man so in love that he would willingly and happily accept another man's child as his without any hesitation. A woman so in love that she would let herself forgive her sinner, in order to bring peace to her lover's life.

And everyday he got to be a part of that love.

It was blessing and a curse to be part of such a pair A blessing because it was empowering and it brought hope that maybe, just maybe that such love existed. A curse because another part of him knew that it was an impossible thing, a figment of someone's imagination.

But maybe not impossible as even it was going to end. Maan thought gloomily. He had managed to keep the facade of being optimistic in front of everyone but as he sat by himself he let the dark thoughts take over.

Glancing around the room, to distract himself he glanced around the room. It was then he saw her sitting in another corner.

Drashti'.Geet'.Drashti'.Geet.

The two names were so interconnected in his mind, that sometimes the lines blurred. He would see glimpses of Geet as she played Drashti, yet he would sometimes see Drashti in Geet.

Yet they were polar opposites. Geet was so vivacious, yet modern in her outlook. She never let anything get in her way. Like a ray of light she would brighten everyone's day with her smiles and jokes. She had even forced him to have fun, making him laugh despite himself.

Today that very smile was missing from her face. He saw her glance at him with tears in her eyes and he knew that his own eyes were also ready to let the tears fall.

AUTHOR's NOTE:

Geet's journey has become our journey.

We shared Maaneet's pain as well as their happiness.

So this story is a meager dedication to our wonderful pair.

I hope I didn't offend anyone and hope its not too meloncholic.

I'll try to update the next part soon.
