Shweta Tiwari is the daughter of Nirmala and Ashok Tiwari. She was brought up in Mumbai and completed her education from the St. Isabel Girls School in Mumbai. She studied for her bachelor's degree at Burhanis College, Mazgaon, Mumbai. She has a younger brother, Nidhaan.In 1998, at the age of 18, Shweta married actor Raja Chaudhary. They divorced nine years later. The couple have a daughter named Palak.

The debut film of Shweta Tiwari is 'Madhoshi' which was released in year 2004. Shweta Tiwari has also active role in Bollywood and Bhojpuri Cinema. In her debut file 'Madhoshi' she played a supporting role, along with other films Abra Ka Dabra, Benny and Babloo. Shweta Tiwari also played a role Bhojpuri film 'Hamar Sayian Hindustani'. She also appeared in an Indian television reality show Bigg Boss 4 and by defeating Ashmit Patel, The Great Khali-runners up of Bigg Boss 4, she became the winner of Bigg Boss 4 and won Rs. 1 crore as prize money. Bigg Boss season 4 was hosted by famous Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

Shweta's character of Prerna in the popular show Kasauti Zindagi Kay was a perfect mix of beauty and brains. She became an instant hit and went ont to become one of the most loved bahus on television, thus joining the league of Smriti and Sakshi.
