Ir is ranked at number 1 on the list of STAR Plus top 10 shows of all time. This show was Asia's most watched and awarded show. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi revolves around the lives of the fictitious Virani family. The show went off-air in November 2008 due to some misunderstanding between the production house and the channel. Albeit, the show was extremely popular and is regarded to be instrumental in changing the face of the Hindi television industry. It starred Smriti Zubin Irani in the lead role, as Tulsi. Parvati of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii makes an appearance in the final episode revealing that she has Tulsi's grandson "Parth" who is Karan and Nandini's long-lost son. She states that she has raised him and that she had told Baa to name the entire wealth after him. As to where the story is to go if continued viewers will have to wait and see.
The serial also aired in Sri Lanka on Sirasa TV every weekday at 8:00 pm. In this telecast, it is dubbed into Sinhala and the name of the drama is changed to Maha Gedara ("Big Home" in Sinhalese). The serial is aired in Afghanistan on Tolo TV every weekday in dubbed Dari version. In Pakistan it is aired on Star Plus (from India) on 10:00 pm.
Originally, the serial was titled Ammma (Mother). The serial had witnessed two 20-year generation leaps and managed to gain a high degree of TRPs. The arrival of Nandini in Karan and Ansh's life in the Virani clan brought, more fame, name and soaring TRPs to the show and the channel; this created history with the unmatched popularity of the pairing of Karan and Nandini Virani.
KSBKBT has maintained a double-digit television rating point for than over five years in succession setting a benchmark record in television viewership. It is surely pleasing viewers with its new look and fresh faces that are bought to the forefront.
In spite all the controversy[which?] and the circus that this serial created around itself, it still grew and scaled the charts rapidly. The initial success of the soap and the subsequent continued patronage of the largely female audience of the show has been instrumental in changing the fortunes of the production house and in creating a successful genre of tearjerker family dramas, which still continues in the Indian TV industry.
