The Eternal Optimist

Just a month into watching her first Hindi soap, thus says the Archivist,
Something happened one night that gave birth to the Eternal Optimist. 

The show was Kasam Se and yes, the night was the one wherein Jai apparently strayed and slept with his sis-in-law.  Was hoping against hope that he had literally slept through the night and not gone any further, drunk as he was that night.


Four months later, the Optimist realised that things were going horribly wrong,
Wiser now about the stock it came from, the Optimist decided to move along.

Yes, much to my disgust, they took it a step further and got Pia pregnant.  It took her forever to deliver the lovechild but I quit the show long before that as I just cant digest extra-marital affairs, even in shows.

As she watched some more shows, the Optimist her words did not mince,
Deferring not to public opinion, she once even wrote about the Frog Prince.

I'm surprised that you dug up this piece about my sordid past. Yes, I made this comment in jest about an actor who was nick named frog in a show where he was a side character but was applauded for his charming looks when he became the lead of another show.  Needless to say the fans of this actor were not amused by my comments and I was shredded to pieces.

Then, came along that fateful night, 'twas that August's second Thursday,
She was arrested by the sight of a Bear, who turned older the very next day.

Wow, Medha. Your attention to details is amazing. Yes, the bear was Shabbir Sebastian Ahluwalia and the show was Kayamath.  It was Shabbir's birthday on August 10th and I started watching the show since August 9th, the fateful night his character Milind, threatened to force himself on his wife because of what her brother did to his sister.  I was curious to see whether he carried out his threat and was soon hooked to the show. 

She offered not much resistance, for the Bear was but a likable Brute,
When her words found release, she first described him as a Jackfruit.

Hahaha. Yes, I did refer to his character as a jackfruit (prickly and hard on the outside and sweet on the inside) - an analogy I use often on similar characters of my fics too.


The Ides of that October, 'twas when the Optimist was finally booked,
Stoically, she lived her sentence with the Bear, emerging fairly cooked.

That was the night of Michi Con. Till date many consider it the best ever con on TV.


For the Bear and his love, all her verbal limits the Optimist did shed,
And, in just a little under ten months, she became the Lady in Red.

I was crazy those days. Not that I am much saner now.


About the Bear and his love, using video mixes, she shared her ken,
And, finally penned her first fan fiction, entitled "Destiny's Children".

I started making video mixes when I was confined to bed because of a knee problem and was lured into writing fics by some well wishers in KYM forum who thought I would make a good story teller although I myself did not have much faith in myself. Destiny's Children turned out to be the most popular of my fics although my favourites are 'Strangers' and 'Great Expecatations' which were far more challenging, given the themes.


Mayhap, there's only one negative that the Optimist will forever cherish,
The Rh factor that, 'tween the Bear and her, did a special relation establish.

Strange that both Milind and Maan seemed to share my blood group.


Just a few days before the Ides of March, finally ended the tale of the Bear,
Then, over a year later, she sighted the Deer, also known as the Billionaire.



Retracing the path, she caught up with the tale of the Deer and his Doe,
Captivated by them, all her favours on them did she then infinitely bestow.

Yes, I was truly bitten by the Maaneet bug although I kept telling myself I will never get addicted to another TV couple after what I went through with my earlier addiction.



Her first topic on them was the role reversal of the Damsel and the Knight.
'Ere that, her first wish was that the Doe would ascend Education's flight,

Well, Geet's education still remains my cherished dream which I am hoping the CVs will fulfill at some point although the way they have turned Geet after her marriage, I'm having very little hopes of.



For the Doe and her Deer, she dusted and opened again her chest of skills,
She churned some mixes, and her imagination she captured with her quills

I did make some mixes on Maaneet but the passion was gone. My writing is also fairly rusted.  I made an attempt in writing something fresh in Maaneet scenes but am struggling  to find my flow again.  The fic has been in the back burner for months now.

From the earliest days of Bugger's thread, she let some words flow from her pen,
And, then with increasing frequency, she started to share her views at the Den.

I used to find the Den imposing since it used to fill up in a matter of hours.  I could not keep pace with the discussions there.  Finally decided to just jump in whenever I felt the need to air my views, not really bothering to try reading all the pages before posting.

Oh, with the Deer, an even more special relation can she claim to share,
For, with a perfect blood match, him from the clutches of death she did snare.

Yeah, I did save his life. So am tied to Maan by blood.


Whilst, at the drop of a hat, with literary ease, does she decipher every symbolism,
Yet, she wishes that the tale of the Doe and her Deer is garnished with some realism.

Sadly I cant dichotomise my thoughts and tend to wish that the story does add a dash of realism from time to time although it is unrealistic of me to even expect them to do so.

Well, the standard by which she judges tales is, for the characters, her empathy,
So, beware if the Optimist ever voices for the Doe or her Deer a new-found sympathy.

I've always been able to be attached to my favourite couples and yet be detached when I have to judge their behaviour.  Dont know whether it is for the good or not.


Belying her id, she claims that, in truth, she is actually more of a pessimist,
Yet, most of us here can attest that, inside her, still lurks the Eternal Optimist.

I am a pessimist at heart although I clothe it often with some brash optimism.
