Chapter 59
She was going through her checklist for the last time to make sure she hadn't forgotten to pack any of the essentials for the trip when she heard the honk outside their apartment building. She peeked through their living room window to see two mini-vans parked there with a bunch of people waiting outside. She quickly picked up her stuff and called for Simran on her way out.
"Remember...either make the first move or make him make the first move...just push him to the limits" Simran told her animatedly as they descended the stairs before they got out of the apartment building. As they came out of their building, Sharan, Shraddha and Kabir came right out to greet her with a hug. Seeing Kabir always made her happy...he was warm and caring even when the weather was gloomy and mournful. She wondered what was he made of that nothing seemed to abrade his spirit. She liked him...a lot...
They put her bag in one of the trunks and saw Rohan put his in the trunk of the other van. Her heart sank right there with the thought that he won't be traveling in the same van as her. Disappointed, she looked over Simran who seemed to understand what she meant..."Koi gal nahi kudiye, abhi toh poori trip baaki hai..." She paused for a bit looking at the crowd that was going on the trip and said "You know, with all these hot guys going, I should seriously reconsider my decision of staying back..."
"And I should consider recording all this and sending it to Adi.." she said with all seriousness but then grinned when Simran laughed. Her grin disappeared when Simran said "Adi? As far as I know only Rohan calls him Adi...abhi se yeh haal hai toh baad mein kya hoga?" she winked at her and she looked away feeling embarrassed...she gave her a parting hug as she said "Have a good trip darling...and give me some good exciting news when you come back."
She climbed into the van that was bare of the middle two seats...they had removed them and spread a comforter in its place so people could lay down in the center. They were going to be driving down the eight and a half hour journey all through the night to get there early morning. She somehow convinced herself that good times lay ahead as she sat back in the van. It was comforting to know that at least Kabir would be around her, although she was still unhappy about Rohan not being around her. She had spent the whole day wondering what would happen on the trip and the very first moment itself caused disappointment.
She was still musing when the van stopped outside Naina's and her heart clenched as she saw her bag being placed in the other van. It irked her so much that she refused to get out of the van while the others got together for a discussion. She didn't look back or get out of the van when they didn't come back for several minutes. Instead, she waited them out...
When the door opened again, her heart skipped a beat as she saw Rohan climb in next to her. He would have thought it was because she saw him had he seen her earlier expression because her face was completely lit up then... but he settled for the excitement due to the trip for a reason for her happiness. The group in her van was small and friendly which helped her to be at ease compared to the short drive earlier when she was sitting with some unknown people around her. 6 of them - Naina, Rohan, Sharan, Kabir, Shraddha and her occupied one van while the other 7 occupied the other van. Each van had 2 drivers that would take turns to drive through the night and rest while the other was driving and needless to say for them it was Sharan and Rohan.
Sharan got into the drivers seat while Shraddha kept him company through his drive. Kabir, Naina and Keerti sat in the middle while Rohan occupied the entire back seat to get some rest. She leaned against the back seat not being able to sleep while the other two lay down and went to sleep after an hour or so into their journey. There were so many things going through her mind that didn't allow her to blink her eyes even for a split second. The heat in the van must have been high because she pulled her hair up in a bun before leaning back against the seat. Her heart skipped a beat as she felt his breath on her nape and her eyes widened as she realized he had lain down on the back seat with his head in the direction where she was sitting. She turned her face slowly just a little bit to confirm that and immediately turned again to look ahead closing her eyes when she saw his legs on the other end of the seat. He must have noticed how close he was to her neck with her hair tied up because his breathing became heavy all of a sudden. She was too occupied with her racing heart to notice the change in his breathing pattern from what touched her neck...she was glad that Sharan had not faded the music to the front otherwise everyone would have been witness to her current state of tachycardia...
