Sanjana I think a fish in the water has a chance to multiply and beget more fish. So God's love is endless. It multiplies manifold and helps satisfy the hunger of many. A fish in the plate is dead already. It only goes to satisfy the appetite of the person eating it. nobody else benefits from it.  So man is more self centered in his love for he only satisfies himself  as opposed to God's selfless love.
