Chapter 19 - Intoxication!

Geet and Nik, though shocked, were grinning along with him and whooping giving each other hugs.

Sid and Raina were finally a couple...Nik and Geet were the only ones left...the thought crossed everyone's mind, but nobody broached the topic.

Nik's flat was falling short for the Geet's latest addiction... dancing on skates.

She complained about the lack of space, but no one was able to come up with the proper space for them to practice. Geet on a creative sprint came up with better moves each day, and the only thing that stopped her was a lack of space.

Nik voiced this to Vicky, who readily lent him his unfinished studio room. It was one of the older Khurana construction's vacant structures. Geet, delighted with the news, insisted on practicing the new routine with him, immediately.

The four reached the studio, to find it almost ready, excepting the last coat of paint. It was long and breezy like a hall, with pillars and huge mirrors on the ends. The light was dim and there were long windows high on the walls. Vicky, had gone classic and got spotlights installed, that illuminated the studio, mysteriously, casting soft shadows on the wall, the constant breeze giving it an ethereal feel.

They started skating, practising the steps on count...feeling more free to experiment with the ample space. It was just them, their voices echoing slightly.  Sunlight streamed through one window making them glow every time they skated past that area. Raina fiddled with the deck at the end of the studio, trying to connect her IPod to it. Sid, left to explore the adjoining rooms. Raina finally managed to play music. Her mind went back to the dance steps that Nik and Geet were practising. It jogged her memory about a song...she surfed through her playlist, telling them she was playing a song on the deck.

Just then her phone rang - it was Sid, he had found something in the back rooms...she left looking for him. Geet and Nik didn't even realize she was missing, until the song began.

(Please let the song load and buffer before you start reading the next part...I hope you enjoy the song the way I visualized it. )

As if on cue they started the routine, finding each of their steps synchronizing with the rhythm of the guitar, automatically.

They fell in with the melody of the song, the lyrics getting to them, swirling around them, creating waves, the tension locking their eyes with each other, moving in harmony - mirroring each other.

Geet swayed, looking deep into Nik's eyes. She saw in them what she was feeling at that moment. She was losing herself in them, unable to break contact...but then again, she didn't want to. A smiled spread to her lips, lightening up her face. The smile was returned by Nik as they danced confidently , each certain about the other's feelings. He held her hand and swirled her as she turned smoothly on the skates. She did a split and went low in the ground, holding her hand in the air, as he glided towards her pulling her up in a swift move. They moved in harmony, each knowing how to move, so as to help each other complete the step with ease...Geet turned in as Nik pulled her outstretched hand. She breathed in his fragrance as she stood close to him for a split-second. She turned back outside. The fresh air away from his scent was unwelcome. She suddenly left his hand and skated away taking off her skates.

Nik looked at her uncertainly, his amazement increasing when shestepped on to his skate-bound feet, putting her arms around his neck, never taking her eyes off his.

Nik's throat contracted on seeing the intense expression in her eyes, the bold confidence in them, when she looked at him. His hands moved possessively around her waist, all thought of the original steps forgotten as they skated lazily just gazing into each other's eyes. Geet, floating high above her physical height, moved her  hand into his hair, singing along with the song, not caring if she was in tune.

They had been longing to be in each other's arms for days - the deserted studio and the music finally bringing them together. A soft smile lit their faces as they glided across the hall, making steps, relishing the feel of the other's arms. He twisted in the skates, moving, loving her glide and move with him.

The tension reached a pinnacle as Geet's smiled faded ; her expression eclipsing all other thoughts in Nik's mind. They pulled themselves closer to the other, clinging on to dear life, intoxicated by each other's essence, all conscious thought of skating gone - just gliding on inertia. Their souls recognized each other, melding into the other, celebrating their long awaited union. Nik's hand moved into her open hair, stroking the nape of her neck. Her eyes fluttered, never leaving his; he felt the tremor run through her. His eyes strayed to her parted lips, as she moved forwards unconsciously. It felt like an eternity before their lips met in the softest most tender kiss. Nik pulled apart and looked at Geet, her eyes still shut, soaking in the moment. He could help but take her lips in another kiss, a little longer this time, as she clung to him helplessly. She opened her eyes to see the fierce joy in his eyes, the adoration in them taking her to newer heights.

When she couldn't control the insane happiness swelling in her, threatening to burst, she jumped off his feet, spinning round and round across the floor her arms spread out; blushing. Nik too smiled, and skated around her, looking his fill at her lithe beauty; watching her tenderly, a shy smile softening his face. She turned around to look at him, glowing, the breeze making her hair fly around her neck. They stared at each other in wonder. The intensity of his expression took her breath away.

Geet held out her hands as she watched him skate towards her, purposefully , and lift her off her feet, holding her to him, his face buried in her hair. The song echoing distantly in the background, like a benediction to the first love.

Chapter 20 - Interlude

Geet held out her hands as she watched him skate towards her, purposefully , and lift her off her feet, holding her to him, his face buried in her hair. The song echoing distantly in the background, like a benediction to the first love.

And that's how Sid and Raina found them. They coughed loudly to get their attention. It was obvious they had accepted each other...they were finally together. They exchanged hugs and pats on the back.

The next morning, Geet walked about smiling to herself...she had barely slept that night. Happiness was blooming from every glimpse of the world that she saw. She drifted around her house, prancing away lost in her thoughts. Her mind reliving her dance with Nik, the stolen moments in his flat later on when he confessed his love to her,( behind the balcony door so that Sid and Raina wouldn't disturb)...the goodnight kiss on her forehead, the look in his eyes. Life was finally turning right for her. She uttered a silent prayer for Nik and his existence in her life.

She stumbled on to her father, reading the newspaper, having his morning cuppa. He was lost in his world of news, The Economic Times unfurled in front of his face.

She sat next to him. Nudged him on his leg.

''Paapa''

''Hmmm...?''

''Papa I want to talk to you.''

''And what is stopping you?''

''It's important, please listen, na''

He put down the paper and looked at her serious expression.

''Paapa..''.she said hesitatingly...''I think I'm in love with Nik.''

He was silent, his eyes roving over his 20 yr old's face. What he saw there, caused him pain. He had just got his daughter back, only to lose her to some other man.  It was not fair...but he had learnt long ago that life never was.

It warmed him that Geet had come to him to let him know about her first ever boyfriend. Had he been the old Mohinder, he'd have heard this news from her Nani...but he was glad to be able to hear it from her own lips. This new relationship that they had going was good. She shared her events of the day, and he told her about the business and the stuff they had going on.

Was her having a boyfriend going to be a problem. He knew Nikhil. He had been over plenty of times. He was a good boy. He respected him for the change he had brought in his daughter...the result of which was his strengthened bond with her. Mohinder knew he was ok with it...but didn't a father have to give his daughter some pep talk...especially now that Rano wasn't there and it was mostly a mother's job to do that. No...he'd not let Rano down...he would bravely let the kids know his thoughts about it...he could be cool... he would do it their style...be the cool Dad...

''Beta I am happy for you.'', he turned happily towards her. ''I'm quite fond of Nik...you should call him over, let us meet officially, eh?''

''Really Paapa??'' she asked, her eyes shining.

''Sure sure...in fact he'll feel awkward alone, right?...call Sid, Mayank and Raina... Let's have dinner or lunch.''

''Ok how about tomorrow? Mayank's not in India, but I'll call Vicky.''

She leapt to hug him, not able to believe the change in her own father. Little did she know about the ordeal she'd have to face.

      *******************************************

Sid had picked up the gang, and reached the Handa home. He was relaxed about the visit. It would probably be one of the last few visits to Geet's haveli...He would miss her...but then he wasn't all that worried about her...she had Nik with her now. Mayank had been updated by him and Raina when Nik and Geet had been hiding behind the balcony door.

He kept sneaking glances at Raina. She was as comfortable as the next person. Vicky too had fallen in with the gang...being a good buddy of Nik and Geet, by now.

They all entered and greeted Nanima. She hugged them all turn by turn. Vicky's presence surprised her...she was pleased beyond measure.

   ****************************************

Geet was missing Mayank. All her closest friends were around...he was the only missing guy. She called him up and related all that was taking place. Sid and Vicky were laughing away with her Dad...it was nothing new to her.

Nik and Raina were talking with Nanima about something emotional, cause Raina had held her hand.

She choked up talking to him. It was the end of an era...everybody was starting something new in their lives. Vicky's canvassing for the studio and company was going to  kick off soon. He and Nik had become inseparable and they had many hobbies in common that made them spend days on end together, very often leaving Geet lost , when it came to their conversation. She didn't mind that... She was happy Nik had found a partner in crime. They wouldn't get to go dirt-bike racing or hang-gliding as often when the dance company began work full scale. Geet had joined Vicky...she had begun taking an interest in her father's business too, but that was only as long as she didn't have to sit in the office for boring hours. In that way she and Vicky were quite similar. He too would much rather  follow his dream than join his obscure older brother in his work.

At times like this she missed Mayank and his quiet assurance. He had been the rock in her life...Sid had always been the flamboyant loud guy who bumbled his way through everything. Mayank was the calm and collected one, who stopped her from messing up too often, who knew when to shut Sid up, who knew how to calm her frazzled nerves when her official boyfriend came to meet her dad...she missed him!

She handed the phone to Sid, who started relating a long list of boring things to him. Nik came and touched her elbow.

''You ok?''

''I am...are you?'

''Sure, babe. I've met your Dad before remember? Relax ''

'Hmmm...'', she said not in the least assured.

They gathered around the dinner table.

   **********************************

Mohinder knew what he had to say. He would say it loud and clear in front of everyone...after all Vicky was no stranger...he was Savitriji's grandson and Sid and Raina were dating too, right?? They had to be educated about certain things, and by God would he do his duty...no matter how embarrassing it was.

Mohinder raised a toast to his daughter and Nik...to new beginnings.

''Kids, I know life was way different a few months ago. I just have to say that I'm glad you guys found each other. Nowadays, finding friends is difficult, let alone love. So here's to all you love birds on finding that happiness in your life. Cheers''

******************************************************

Geet sighed in relief. She had been worried as to why her father had invited the friends over. She started eating her food. But her father was far from done.

''But you know guys, nowadays life is following the west a lot. So I would appreciate you to maintain some decorum and not flow too fast in your feelings and go around smooching and sleeping with each other. Be resp----''

Geet spat out her spoonful of soup right in his plate, choking and coughing. Nik's glass dropped out of his hand and shattered on the floor, Vicky n Sid doubled up in silent giggles, while only Raina turned red with embarrassment.

''Paapa..pleeease...stop.'', hissed Geet furiously, wide eyed.

''What? What did I say? Smooching wrong word hain kya?? Oh is it shagging??'' he asked politely, confused about Geet's reaction - assuming he had got the youthful lingo wrong.

''Paapa...?!?!!!!'', she groaned mortified...she

glared at the now laughing Nik, thoroughly embarrassed.

Nik quietened down immediately. He put on a serious expression and turned to her father.

''Uncle, you rest assured that you won't face any such problems with Geet and me. We'll never let you down''

He looked back mischievously at Geet as his mind slipped back to him and Geet on the balcony the evening before.

In their haze of making out, he had, with effort, stopped Geet's roving hand from taking too much liberty under his shirt, making him lose control. He loved Geet, but his instinct somehow told him that it was not the time to take their relationship that much further. They had to go one step at a time. No doubt he was the responsible one of the two. She had been annoyed, but he had kissed and explained it as well as he could.

He smiled now, at her knowing she was thinking about the exact same thing!! She pouted at him, kicking him under the table. He grinned and pulled his feet away, winking at her. She looked mollified.

Sorry..next update shall be all Maan...I know u guys are becoming gussaa...plz me trying to finish this season asap...love u all

Chapter 21 - The Making of Maan

There are times in one's life when they wonder if they could have changed the past. Or was it just meant to be. You wish you had acted or stopped an event and you just don't know if it's possible. When  Maan looked back at his life, he wondered.

It had been a month. Khurana Constructions had been doing well. Much better in fact. Even thought they hadn't agreed to the clauses of the Malhotras...they had fared well. The business had done well. He was slowly gaining his father's trust in opinions. It was satisfying...his father was slowly trusting him, looking for his advice ' banking on him. Vicky was doing well too. His troupe was increasing. There was some new guy and his girlfriend who were helping. He wasn't very worried and he knew Vicky wanted to do it himself, so he didn't bother interfering.

Life was a n emotional mess for him on a personal front. He knew that he had his father's trust, but when it came to his father's associates, he knew they didn't consider him much.  To them he was still a boy without much experience. And he knew they were right in a way. Whatever conversations he'd had with them, only proved that they didn't value his opinion. His internship abroad had been a different experience...but he knew  he had to work in India so that meant that he had to prove his mettle here. And he had to work hard at that.

Time flew as he took tips from his father, learning as much as he could from him. His father had built the business after his grandmother had retired. He knew they were the best people to learn from. His dislike for Mr. Patel never receded, but he learnt to be firm and diplomatic.

His love life was another riddle. His latest girlfriend Madhu, had left him high and dry. He was slowly beginning to lose trust in love. Would he ever get love? He had begun to trust Madhu, but she hadn't really cared much. A career in a foreign country was more important for her.  He had to learn to keep to his work ' or did he do it to forgett that pain? It was only Daadi to whom he opened his wounds. His siblings understood all too well and went out of their way to make him happy, whether it was a party or to the club ' but it was only Daadi who heard the words. She worried about him.

Maan was now handling the offices out of Delhi. He frequently travelled, living out of a suitcase.  He camped, trekked, anything to take his mind off the lonely existence of his life when he didn't work.

His heart longed for a friend, but he rarely paid attention to his heart, and concentrated his energies in giving the Khuranas a better name, more profit and making his father's dream come true.

Expansion overseas was the next  step and Gaurav and Maan took it as soon as possible. In a span of 5 months,  Gaurav had all the plans on paper.

Gaurav was more relaxed about travelling abroad and doing his research to start the business abroad.  Maan was there to handle things, while he was gone.  Maan was not happy about it.  He wasn't unable to put his finger on it, but something was  troubling him. Was it intuition?? He didn't know, neither did he pay much attention to it.  It was something he was doing a lot lately ' repressing any feelings that he didn't understand.   Still the feeling of impending doom continued to haunt him whenever he thought of the overseas business.

When Maan drove his father to the airport, he had a sudden urge to tell him not to go.  He chided himself to  not be a silly boy and hugged him goodbye.  It was the last time he did so.

The family was informed about the plane crash an hour after it occurred.  Gaurav had died leaving the burden of the Khurana empire on Maan's  grieving shoulders. Daadima lay in bed grieving for days, frail and helpless. Maan grew angry with himself. He felt like an inexperienced pup.  If only he had stopped his father.  If only...

It was that day, that Maan grew up. All the problems he had with himself faded into the background as he knew the purpose in his life.  Every day was a challenge. Every day he had to prove himself to his staff, his associates, his family. It was a tough job, one he gave his 100%. Vicky was there with him all along...giving him a hand whenever he wanted. ' dropping plans with friends or even his studio rehearsals, only so that Maan's burden would lessen.

He faced problems in abundance...Mr. Patel being the most annoying. His instinct had been right. Mr. Patel had been the leech all along,  guiding  Gaurav wrongly, influencing him to make wrong  moves after moves.

Maan spent nights burning the midnight oil, looking up tenders,  going through the accounts and the past records.  He didn't say anything to Mr. Patel then, considering his seniority and his father's affection for him. But he was not his father, and he would learn from his father's mistakes.

When Mr Patel next came to Khurana Constructions under the pretext of  helping out Maan, he was in for a surprise.

He entered wishing the staff as usual, putting on a bereaved expression. The person who faced him however was not the boy he had last met.

''Maan beta . How are you?'', he asked with affectation.

''I'm fine Mr. Patel'', he said ' stressing on his manner of address.

''I wanted to talk about the joint project we are going to do. You did get the offer from the Sahni Group didn't you? ''

Maan nodded.

''Then beta, why did reject it?''

''Mr. Patel'', he replied. '' Frankly, I didn't see much profits for it. It was a lost cause and I want to look forward and not do such small projects. It doesn't interest me or the company.''

''Beta,'' he said, in an oily voice, '' I think you'll agree that I have much more seniority in this issue than you have. You are new here. I think you should consider my advice. I know more than you. Listen while you can and you may be at a loss. After all, your father trusted me.''

Maan had had just about enough. His thinly veiled threat had not escaped him. He could see through the lies of Mr. Patel. The bulk of the profits were only for his company, leaving a negligible percentage for Khurana constructions.  He hated the man for his conniving mind.  So he did what his gut told him to.

He stood up and spoke , his eyes flashing fire.

''Mr Patel.  Assuming, that from now onwards you will be associating with me, I would prefer to addressed as an equal. So let me remind you in case you have forgotten ' the name is Maan Singh Khurana.

I am not going to be persuaded to do this deal, no matter how beneficial it maybe to you. So I suggest you look for another scapegoat to thrust your ill - designed deal on.  As far as my father's trust goes. I'm sure he'll be proud of me for making my own decisions. ''

Mr. Patel also stood up, his eyes spitting fire. ''Why you little disrespectfu--''

''Don't let the door hit you on your way out. Thank you for your time.'', was the only thing Maan said, before seating himself and resuming his work.

MR. Patel was only the 1st person...but the business world was about to know what he was made of.

Maan's struggles and hardships led to fruition as he won success upon success. He won awards for being one of the best entrepreneurs. He never entertained anything that pushed him away from his goal. He struck at the construction industry with a vengeance... Nobody could ignore him ' he was the best. Girls vied for his attention; everybody wanted to sign a deal with him. A picture with him in the newspaper increased the person's brand value.

Daadima was proud of him ' but she knew his life felt hollow. The spark she used to see in his eyes had diminished. It had been replace with something else.  Maan had begun keeping to himself. He never went out, hardly ever partied. His playboy image was forgotten. He was a changed person. Annie and Vicky noticed it too. He had become stern...he rarely cracked a smile.  When it came to their relationship, however, he was always present for family. But they all worried about him nonetheless.

Maan too wasn't unaware about his change in personality. He could see the change in himself. His stern demeanour was getting him respect and success ' people were scared to oppose him ' they didn't take him lightly. It all was giving him a heady sensation. But it was a feeling he liked. The very associates who treated him like a kid when his father was alive, were now thinking twice before opposing him.

He was a great boss. He loved his staff. They were all capable, hand-picked by him. He knew they feared him, but he never hesitated to look after their welfare.  They were the best around, honed and shaped under his guidance.  And thanks to that, he could go about his camping trips.

His latest trip had been a long one. He had been gone for almost 3 weeks.  Daadi had been worried sick. When he returned, he had looked into the progress on the latest projects and had returned home.  Adi had looked into everything, managed all the necessary procedures...work was fine. He had stayed in his room, hardly interacting with family.

He paced his room,  loneliness swamping him ,despite the house full of people. He resorted to work to keep his mind off things. This was becoming a routine though he failed to realize it. Through all this, Maan never realized what was troubling him. He wondered over his change, but he never realized it was loneliness and the burden that was the problem.

As expected it was Daadi who understood this about him.  But, Maan had taken to staying away from everybody.  It was time she took matters in her hands. She sent all the drivers away for an impromptu leave. Once Maan had finished his work, she asked him to drive her to Vidya's home.

She planned to speak to Maan in the car where h e couldn't run away from her.!!

Precap:

He barely had time to glimpse the face ' but the expression in those eyes never left him. He tried to recollect the face again but was left clutching at strands ' the eyes however mystified him, elevated him. They never left him!

Note: language of the precap is subject to change in the next update...please comment I want feedback!!

thanks.

Amruta..  Absolutely amazing... in this one chapter only you have laid all the back ground for Maan and what he was what he is and what he needs...

Very well set up and loved it... I am just glad that Maan has entered..

Your plots are well ready for the next execution... Geet and Nick have fallen in love and have been approved by father with the warning of not to be intimate...

All other friends have found their goals

Maan is successful business man after a lot of hard work and lonely life and now dadima is about to intervene and see that something comes in his life..

But I think What Dadima is thinking has been sleep away for time being

I am totally intrigue to know how Geet will come out of Nick's love or Nick has any shaddy motives...and how Maan will step back for a while struck by those mesmerizing eyes..

very nice Amruta wating for the next update

Thanks a lot

True...she was so lost in her grief over losing her son, she failed to see the repercussions in Maan's life...but she's also human and prone to errors.

Nick and shady motives...Hmmm?!?!?!?😉
all I can say is that he is as human as all of us..!!

What an amazing update Amruta! 👏
The way you described Maan's change was so natural and realistic.
It's true that going through hardship does change you...sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Maan became better in his profession but as a person he became more secluded.

Your FF is keep gettin better  and better and I can't wait to read more of it.

Thanks for the pm!
