Gossip Girl Season 4, Ep21 Full Recap & video
Shattered Bass
Oh my little XOXOers, it's the next to last episode and it's like a bad dream. Or, actually, Blair's bad dream. She starts with the prince and ends up in high school. Last week, our Chuck lost his mind and got super drunky and told Blair she was his babe4ever. But she was still in faux love with the prince and turned him down. Chuck got mad and mistakenly cut her cheek and Nate saw it and was mad. And not mad because Nate is sleeping with Chuck's ex. Charlie and Dan are flirty flirty over candy and that classic teen incest novel, Flowers in the Attic. Wow, romance sure has changed. Charlie somehow cons Serena into helping her get access to her trust fund. And Charlie is on some sort of secretive medication which she dumps into a trash can. Rufus, after his required three sentences, finds the empty bottle. Blair's mom and Vizzini from the Princess Bride (he happens to be an expert mediator on land wars in Asia!) are in for the engagement party. The prince's mom is very mean and says New York is ugly. She had Blair followed and knows that Blair went to see Chuck after being engaged. Blair is mad at Serena for trying to destroy her engagement. Why IS Serena all mad at Blair? What are we missing? It's not like Serena wants to be with the prince. Serena needs a better story line. Raina/Reyna/Reina knows that Chuck has been covering up her mom's death and has called in the baddest Bass, Jack, Chuck's uncle, to investigate. Blair warns Chuck that Jack is up to something. Jack meets Daddy Thorpe and they cackle and stir their witch brew about the destruction of Chuck Bass. It's a grand engagement party! But the prince is missing. He's off to confront Chuck because he loves Blair, whom he's known for 12 minutes. But Chuck is already fighting with someone else ' his uncle. Oh yes, Jack was the one who offered the hotel in exchange for Blair. Then two guys from the insane asylum show up, singing something from Beauty and the Beast. They take Chuck away. We have now officially fallen off the cliffs of insanity. What the heck just happened ' some guy manages to get Chuck committed? People just show up in beige and that's it? Blair fesses up to the prince about seeing Chuck. Wow, the prince is all "be honest with me and show me all the parts of yourself." There are more cliches to follow about being ready to share your life. Someone is hiding something. I don't believe anyone could be that emotionally healthy on this show. Oh snap! The whole Chuck thing was a joke on Daddy Thorpe! Nate, Chuck and Uncle Bass show up at Thorpe's office. Turns out that Thorpe is the one who set the fire who killed his wife. Thorpe has been blaming it on Daddy Bass the whole time. Daddy Bass was in love with Thorpe's wife. Thorpe meant to kill Daddy Bass instead. Daddy Bass got all the insurance money and took the blame in return for Thorpe going to Chicago and never coming back. Chuck offers the same deal. He gets Thorpe Enterprises and keeps his mouth shut. Raina will never know. Except for three minutes later when Nate tells her. She immediately calls her father and tells him he's dead to her. Daddy Thorpe thinks Chuck blabbed. (Note: Does the new "It Gets Better" commercial make you cry every damn time? Me too.) Here we are at the fundraiser. Serena is mad because she had to wear a hideous salmon thing with a giant silver explosion and Charlie showed up in a pretty gold dress. Serena says the dress is hers! Her dress! That she wore four years ago! There may have been foot stomping. Charlie swears she bought it, but Serena says "Take it OFF!" Really? Take it off? In the middle of a party? A four year old dress? Vizzini has a quiet word with Blair and even makes a Princess Bride joke. He tells her to tell the prince everything and that if he truly loves her, the prince will accept everything. That's actually the nicest moment on Gossip Girl for a long time. Vanessa and Serena are all talking about Dan and Charlie. Why won't Vanessa just go away? At the fundraiser (which is at Dan's old high school,) Charlie lures Dan into an office and takes off her clothes. She wants to do the hanky spanky, but then.. ewww. She tells Dan to call her "Serena." He bails faster than her dress came off. Blair gets a call that Chuck is in trouble. Blair tells Charlie not to tell her prince she just had to leave for a moment and will be back. Chuck then shows up at the fundraiser. Blair is on the roof and Daddy Thorpe is there instead of her prince. He's ready for his revenge.
P Recap...The Wrong Goodbye
Georgina Sparks and former Constance mean girls Kati and Isobel (guest stars Nan Zhang and Nicole Fiscella) return. Blair must make a choice between Chuck and Prince Louis. "Gossip Girl" author Cecily von Ziegesar will also make a cameo.
