We meet more characters:
Saravanan - 1st year B Tech IT - is disgusted because his dad can't get the bike started. He says he could have gone by bus, father says he can't pay the bus fees. He has already pledged everything to put his son in college since his grades were poor, tells son to think of a way to earn money and repay everything.
Ashok - 1st B Tech IT - and Appu - same class. Saravanan's father greets them. They offer to take Saravanan with them in Ashok's car, Saravanan's dad is happy that he can save some money. He tells them to be friends always and tells Sara to return in Ashok's car. Sara gets angry over dad's money saving ways, but his friends calm him down and take him along.
Four people are waiting to greet the kalvi minister, because his son is joining the college. The minister comes, is garlanded, son is still in the car, comes out slowly. His name is Thangapandi - 1st year B E computer science, he is the first in their family to study periya pathu (plus 2). He got admission in American colleges, but since he wants karuvaadu and mochai kottai kuzhambu, he decided to go to this college. The correspondent wants to know which dept he is going to attend, the son says Mechanic...something. Dad says let him study a little of everything, to let him know if he is not served what he wants to eat. After dad leaves, correspondent scolds the son, tells him to remove his glasses, and says he is not even fit to be a thottakaaran, considering his grades. He has a pitiful look on his face.
Balaji and Jaya come out together. Jaya scolds Balaji for going everywhere with her, and he says that is because she is going to marry his annan. Just then, the brother calls, wants to know exactly where they are, and then talks to Jaya. She sounds bored and annoyed, and when it is over, tells Balaji that he has called so often and it is too much.
More new characters - Vidya, 1st B Tech IT and Haripriya, also of the same class - are being stared at by three roadside Romeos. The three guys tell them to salute, then do a vanakkam, and tell them to answer their questions. One of them wants to know if Haripriya is Vadagalai or Thengalai, and her name, and the song from Anniyan plays in the background. The girls are told to go like a train, and just then the boys see a police car coming, their knees start shaking and when they see some policemen get down from the van, they tell the girls to go.
A young man gets down from the police van, he begs to be ragged, and the seniors tell him to go. He continues to beg, the policemen ask if there is any problem, if so, to call 100, and they will come with their weapons, and leave. It seems he is the son of some high ranking police officer. The seniors tell him to go inside, and nondhufy their luck in ragging!
The same young man is paying off the policemen, and they are not satisfied with their payment. He tells them to come for the next two days, till all the ragging is finished.
